CS tips?

ok,

Third day ever playing CS and I'm getting an average of 8 kills a game. I Can't quite get those headshots in as it appears to be a fight between poor vision and recoil so I was wondering, does anyone have any tips for making sure that the majority of shots actually hit where they're supposed to be? Any pointers on aiming would be a great help too :)

Use the M3. You'll be shunned as a fool, however it has 100% accuracy, hence if you can duck inbetween shots, you'll own. Plus it's easy to get headshots with it.

Crouch when fire or stand still (both have the same accuracy - but crouching gives them a smaller target). Run around most of the time but in map hot-spots walk. Kevlar is very useful, even if it is just the normal variety. If you have below $800 and a poor score, type 'retry' in console and you'll get more money (if it's in the middle of a round) and a nice new score (0/0) :)

With the greater percentage of head shots in 1.3 crouching is prolly a bad idea i think, unless you are hiding somewhere.
Becuase a lot of people aim for the middle of the body, crouching often gives them a lucky head shot, which is quite annoying :)

Double-tap when using rifles :) most common thing to say, its not wise to go full auto with them

if going full auto try to control the rise of the machine gun, point it down slightly as it rises and you can sometimes get a few extra hits.

dont use Mac10 or TMP unless you are going to get REAL close to someone, face-to-face tango style basically

shotguns are excellent for "supressive fire" on certain maps, do lay quite a punch up close when you least expect it :D

If you got the money, equip yourself with a flashbang and a grenade, you'll never know when they come in handy :)

of course, an even better idea is to bind MOUSE1 to /quit :p

Also another tip, dont shoot while on Ladders, the recoil is a fucker...

and another tip for ladders, crouch while climbing up, that way it reduces the sound of you climbin up

I only use mac10's/UMP (Not TMP lol) when im havin a laugh, coz they are a generally very weak weapon, but i piss myself when you kill someone with em :D

It depends when you crouch. If you crouch after they started firing it's unlikely they'll get a headie on you unless they compensate for recoil as crouching counts as an 'instant' movement. Hence, your head does not pass down, but merely appears at crouch height instantly... most bullets will then go over you due to recoil.

Of course, this only works on the basis that you ARE going to out shoot the other player ;)

=====

Charlie, learn the recoil spreads of the guns... learn camping spots and where people are likely to group on maps. Sounds silly but try and find 'better' players on servers and follow them around. You'll learn a lot from watching them play.

Also remember that your weapon is very unaccurate at all but closest ranges if you are moving. Take shots then move back into cover, don't just stand there and take punishment.

As for hitboxes and stuff, you can d/l the cpl approved simple models (though I don't know where from, I nicked mine from m8's PC). These improve FPS and also give you a clear indication of what you CAN and CANNOT hit on a model.

Heh, now a lot of peeps may disagree with me but try and learn how to use the radar. You're starting out so it should be quite easy to start learning how to NOW. Know who is around you (ID at centre of HUD works well for that). If someone drops on your radar you can quite easily pinpoint where the enemy are in relation to the sounds of the gunfire/bullet casings/footsteps as well as the dot that just disappeared in front/behind you.

Oh yeah, check corners... you never know when you'll find some git like me or Jobs hiding in some obscure spot that only a fool would hide in ;)

Try out all the guns, find ones that you know you can use and are comfortable with. Also, always buy armour when possible. It does help... especially with random grenades. Armour stops 50% of blast damage...

Fire in bursts, but if you're comfortable with it, try spraying and lowering your aim at the same time. Generally hang behind your team and survive until you start getting confident in your ability to kill people one on one. Once that happens, then start to be more brave and rushing, etc. Nothing worse that someone who rushes and can't hit shit ;)

1: Ignore the bullet strike decals on your screen. They exist only on your computer, so adjusting your aim because of where you think they show you the bullets are going is wrong.
A zoomed Aug always looks like its shooting higher than it is.

2: Ignore the recoil thing. Its bollox and no real world physics apply. After the first shot, which goes where you point the x-hair, random factor is applied and bullets go all over the fucking place with no control over them. This is why there are so many headshots on CS.

3: Knives have a longer range than you think.

4: Always put a burst into an approaching corner in case someone comes round it. The amount of kills I have got doing this is mind boggling.

5: Be paranoid as fuck. Every hole and corner is your enemy. Pretend that they are everywhere and act accordingly.

6: Use your ears. Listen for giveaway sounds. Also use A3d hardware if you have it as you can hear things twice as far away as using EAX or no 3d at all. (nb: Does Live Player 5.1 use A3D??)

7: Shotguns are fab, as no shooting penalties are incurred for moving or jumping whilst firing.

8: The M4 does less damage when silenced. There is also no change to muzzle flash when silenced.

9: Tap fire with a brief pause inbetween shots is the best firing method.

10: Can't think of any more.

lol.

Charlie u played fine, although u got to remmeber your not playing quake3. If you rush in rambo style and die, you wait till next round, no instant respawn. Re-think your stategy, just slow down a little. I'd also stick to smaller 12 man servers, its a lot easier to learn and improve there. As for your aim, try turning CS's prediction stuff off, its what your used to with q3 isnt it?

My two pennies:

Burst fire at long range (1-2 shots, let the gun fall back down before u fire again)
Hold the trigger down when at close range, unless you're able to sneak up behind them
Aim for the chest/neck, and you'll do loads of damage. Easy with pistols when they're stood still
First round on a defuse map as a ct, buy a defuse kit, very handy

BTW CS is a team game, don't just run off Rambo-style, you'll die. And if a teammate appears to need help, HELP HIM. This includes seeing a teammate being shot from around a corner - don't just sit there and watch, run around and fire back. You'll find that kind of teamwork is appreciated.

****Watch what good players do and copy it.****

(therefore don't watch me)

Lol :D, i always leave my team mates alone, especially if he has a Diffuse Kit or a bigger badder weapon than me :D

But this in only in cases where they dont help ME back, if i find im on a good side, i'll team up with someone and play proper

I always follow the guy with the defuse kit or big bad gun.

He'll die.

I will pick up said items for free.

Heh.
