Howdy,

I installed the CS Source Server and created my very own server *woo*, I added some bots and then connected to the server using Connect IP:port and killed those CPU bastards!

What I noticed is the IP of the server is the same as my Router (dunno if thats supposed to happen?)

How comes my friends cant connect to my server? It's setup as an Internet server instead of LAN server. I gave them the IP and Port yet they still cannot join.

The other thing is when i made my server, i tried searching for it...but it does not show up in the lists :(

Aha! I just read something about port forwarding.

I have no idea about routers, do i enable port forwarding, or do i have to chose a port that forwards, or do i need to find out my friends port's and add those to a list?

well young bahu...

the reason your friends cant connect to your server is that they are actually using the wrong type of string, if youll jusr bear with me a second i shall explain the advanced processes of the "Yogart pot to string ration for communication theory"..

oh who am i kidding i dont even understand that :(

Could you help on this part please?

Port Forwarding for the BT Home Hub

portforward said:
Use the Device box to choose a computer to forward ports to. This box contains a list of computer names that are visible on your network. Select the application you created using the Game or Application drop down box. Then click Add to enable it.
And that is it! You are done!

This says about computers on my network, however my friends wont be on my network...Will they be affected or is this setting something you need to setup for computers on a LAN?

basically you need to put in the IP of the computer which is acting as a host,
when your friends pc connects to your network the router will recognise the port it is using and forward the signals to your pc

In short:
choose a computer to forward ports to
Your PC

This box contains a list of computer names that are visible on your network
Your computers host name will be here in the list as well as any computer that has connected to your internal network in the past, if you are unsure what the host name of your machine is

1) Open command prompt by clicking Start->Run then type "cmd"
2) type "ipconfig /all"
3) your machine name will be in the field:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : YOURMACHINE

Setup the port forwards and got a game running, once the game starts a different IP is setup for the game server. This was displayed on the Find Server screen. I ended up getting some random person join so I know it all works.

My friend tried to connect and the console screen said "Kamui has connected xx.xxx.xxx.xx:50127"

He never actually got into my game though :( it seems he gets the loading screen, but it never completes.

I thought this could be due to my router only forwarding ports 1200-1220 27000 - 27020 27020 - 27050

I updated my router but then CS released a patch, this meant that i had problems viewing servers as my version of the game was too new i think.

My question is, "Does the fact my friends Port displays 50127 mean I need to forward that port so he can connect to my server?
