since i upgraded my pc last week i've been unable to play CS and have been suffering lots of pc crashes / hangs whereby the sound system seems to be at fault ?

looking in counter-strike.net forums this seems to be a big prob recently and seems to be related to Creative SB cards ?

seems to mainly affect AMD and motherboards with the 686 chipset ?

anyone else had this problem and if so have you solved it !!!

i've done various driver upgrades and am in the process of getting some GE Force Detonator drivers.

CS only works if i use Software mode.

i'm now running :

AMD 1700+
SB Live
Abit KG7 m/b
256mb ram
32 mb Ge Force Pro
Win 98 se

other people are recommending using OpenGL for CS not D3D ?

Not really a lot to go on here - since almost every pc has a SB card, I can't see it being that - if you've just upgraded, and it happens playing games, have you considered overheating?

And use OpenGL - D3D sucks.

i've seen a lot of people talking about this on counter-strike.net forums.

also on viaarena and creative sites.

its not just cs, other things crash and the sound loops ?

was hoping someone here had experienced the problem.

my old intel pc was fine.

its on the new amd one. :(
