To be a good cs player:
you need to listen to what is goin on around you, you need to know when to join in the combat or when to hold back.
Take the player by surprise, instead of running round like a lunatic with a rocket launcher.
Use tricks to fool the opposition like throwing a grenade down 1 tunnel and go the other way.
Always do what they dont expect you to do and lastly always keep your cool in a gun fight. Even if you are getting hit a lot, keep with your ak bursts. newbie players would panic and keep there finger on the trigger.

Theres Nothing to being a good Dm player, anyone can do it. know where the weapons are, hit the target while making sure you dont get hit yourself

all hardcore dm players would disagree, but after playing HLDM, quake 3 and UT for a year its what i have found out

CS is the largest online FPS in the world, played by countless thousands, and yet you seem to be able to generalise to this degree!

I would be intrigued to know where you get your evidence from, and how many of the worlds CS players you have investigated to be able to make such a statement.

I still think if you can play an fps then you can play any fps. Yeah, there are different strategies and skillz involved, but the fact of the matter is unless you're playing some ultra-realistic game (like OpFlash) and you have to lead and shit, then you can 'generally' play ok.

I mean, to carry on arguing that CS players are truly pantz at other fps games is like saying, those who are good at playing squash (or tennis, etc.) will be shit at playing other raquet sports. It just doesn't make sense.

Hand to eye co-ordination, reflexes, 'thinking' (or strategy), they are all used in every fps game, believe it or not! You may knock something, but at the end of the day you have to understand that the players who are good at it ARE good, not shit because YOU think the game is shit.

I mean, how hard is it to point a crosshair? If you can't do that simple thing, whilst using the keyboard, then yes, you are crap at fps'. Of course, there are exceptions. I mean, can anyone remember Thresh? he hated Q3 whilst being undisputed king of Q2. But that's down to taste, not pure ability. I've seen Blokey of Q3 fame nail a public CS server - and some of the N!P guys from CS are freeekin good at UT I'm told.

Ability dictates the way people play. Practice makes perfect, but if you haven't got talent, then there's nothing to whine about in the first place...

First: Leading isn't to do with realism, leading is to do with netcode and the way the weapons are configured

Any weapon that has slower moving projectiles(ie a Hyperblaster) requires leading. But any gun will require leading should you play witrh no prediction. I'm not totally sure wether Q2 has any weapons prediction, but if it does, it sucks, so you have to lead with a high ping, especially with a railgun

This is where HL stands out, as its netcode is 2nd to none.


The majority of FPS(All the ones that are based on some form of quake, which is to say all the best ones ) have physics which enables air acceleration. This means that you can bunnyhop. CS Players generally don't BunnyHop, 1) Because people seem to think that it's realistic, and they don't see BunnyHopping as beng realistic compared to getting shot and not dying. And 2) Because the HL community in General has alot more newer players(and less experianced players as they all prefere quake*) and hence they see BunnyHopping as cheating.

Imo, Bunnyhopping is probebrly wrong in any game with speed based classes(ie TF*), but for anything else, it's the way to play. I would say jumping is the most important thing to do in any game, but CS most CS players don't see this, as they only play a game with warped physics.

Quake 2 has the best code around, still

Anything under 150 and you don't have to lead shit with a hit scan weapon, unlike tfc, cs where it just puts a dam random prediction on things, i say random, because thats what it is 90% of the time.

You have to laugh, been playing as a nonce engineer the last couple of days for a laugh, the amount of times iv'e thrown grens and emp's into people only for them not to even take 1 health point of damage is funny. And beause i shift the model with a quick strafe jump, nearly everytime a sniper takes a pop at me and hits, 9 times out of 10, i ain't even made it round the corner on my screen

Btw, a good modem, isp and you will get pings bellow 150 most nights of the week while playing q2.

i have to agree with you on the HL netcode... its absoutely superb. It gives 56kers a equal chance with people with phat pipes.

I have never found a fault in the HL netcode really, its reliable, it gives me good pings and theres no delay in firing a gun. (unlike in UT where i can have a ping of 150 and still wait about a second for it to fire).

Similar Problem with Q2.

Also, in tribes 2. which i had for a while. It lies about your ping. again i was pinging about 150-170. it should be pritty fast.. felt like a 500 ping on HL.. terrible.

I'm sorry but the person who started this thread.....your theory don't totally work mate. i was quite good at Quake Style games, but when i started CS i SUCKED as bad as Monica Lewinsky, but, like here, got better.

Personally, i think that CS is MUCH harder than Quake style Dm games. You have to hold back alot, use your head, and work as a team. Plus you actually care about whether or not you live or die. LIFE IS PRECIOUS in CS games, who's ever felt the same way in a game of Quake? Plus alot more thought has to go into the choice of weapons, money also can be a problem. In a game of Quake, all these rules go out the window really.

Saying that all CS players suck at Quake style games however, that's just too much of a generalisation for my liking.

And correct me if i'm wrong...... but isn't CS a First Person Shooter anyway? It certainly aint a Third Person Shooter that's for sure. Unless you're dead and following one of your alive players around that is.
