CS Crashing

Aye thats you, I have never had problems with intel and so will continue to buy intel until i do. I however know 4 people with unstable AMd systems and for the sake of £200 or so its really not worth it.

Fair enough. Personally, it was the speed that drew me to AMD chips. My mate got a K6-2 233 (the 1st ones with 3d-now), for about £50. We did some Quake2 benchmarks, and he got as almost good frame rates as my P2-400. His MB and CPU cost a fraction over £100, my combo cost about £420. That was the last Intel I have ever paid money for, and that was about 3 years ago.
Guess that you pay your money and you take your choice. £200 would be the majority of the cost of a new GeForce 3 (they retail for about $400).
I know what my choice would be.

lol, bottom line is that Intel are more stable products, fact...hence why IT vendors won't dare sell AMD servers, because they quite simply can not trust them to be stable enough. Add to that the HUGE amount of fucking around they require to get working, and the amount of effort o keep runing, they rank as high-maintenance

As we've already said, we're quite happy to pay more for a higher quality and more stable product. Hey, I'm not trying to make you feel bad about being poor or not being able to afford Intel, so get off your soap boxes please.

No, the main reason most servers are not intel, is because at the moment there is not a duel athlon motherboard available. And with a real OS (unix or some flavour of), you can get duel threads going at the same time.
Most real servers aint Intels either, they are alphas or something along those lines.
And you think that any of the 800 seriers chipsets (from intel) are stable? They have been recalled about 3 times due to bugs in them. The MTH (memory translation hubs) are known for being an absolute liability.
And as far as spending more money goes; Let me get this right, you would rather pay more money, for a slower PC, wow, thats just, well, dumb. Oh and for the record, the Athlon 1.33Gig is the fastest chip for games, period.

And as far as my windows comment goes. Any one who has worked in a software development environment will tell you that crashes under windows are part and parcel of the OS. Especially the win9x kernels.

Okay without it getting into an argument, I told you whyI would not buy an AMD, I am not an Intel zealot so stop trying to convert me to AMD.

I know t-birds are faster than p4's and out perform them, but i would rather have a system that works without me having to fiddle to much. I that is a misconception then fine, let it be a misconception but it's based on the fact that everyone I know with AMD chipsets has or has had hassle and problems. I am not going to buy my system till summer and my view may very well change, as I said I am no zealot for either company I, should a dual mobo t-bird solution come out by then I could be quite easliy tempted.

Lovedaddy your right... most serious servers are not anything to do with Intell... Like you say they are SUN or Alpha. Most of the internet PoPs (Point of Presence) are based on SUN boxes... go figure Perplex!

Why the fuck are you all talking about servers when the original issue was your AMD crashing your counterstrike.

No matter how many AMD server boxes are built/sold, your CS will still crash. Bloody AMD fanboys seem to turn up in every thread the damn things are mentioned.

point taken some of the messages have been "off message" but if you have a look at the purile personal attacks by Perplex and others, you will realise that this thread has turned in to an educational thread for him and other "head in the sand" Intel owners.

FYI i have sorted my CS crashing problem. i did a little more reading on some useful forums and solved the issue. It was only CS I had a problem with, no other game. i have never played CS until just recently cause everytime i look at CS forums they are full of fucking twats... then i thought to myself... the best way to shut these bastards up is to kick their fuckin asses!

The problem isnt using an AMD cos I can use it fine and my friend with a Intel P3 has the same jamming problem.

I agree AMD processors are better but @ the moment only new software is optimised for AMD3d now and stuff. P4's are quicker but they r a rip off.

whoopie do. I can get 100fps on my old computer with like a AMD 500Mhz. It aint exactly needing a top of the range PC to run a low spec game. Get thrills, but any1 can get 100fps if they set their computer up properly:

PS: me being a fool I have been running my AMD 800 at 50fps without even installing the motherboard drivers coz the people I bought my PC were fools and i assumed they did it.
On 3dmark2000 after installing the drivers my score went up by 4 times meaning in theory I could easily run Counter Strike at 200fps if the maximum cap was higher. Also what is the point of running at 100fps when ure screen refresh rate is probably no higher than 85.

well i use a duron 700 clocked to 800mhz with duel boot win 98 and 200 with a third linux installation incase things fooker up.

safely say that the pooter hasnt crashed once yet on any operating system and the win 2k its the release

i will say thoguh i upgraded froma amd k6/2 450 and that was fookered to hell

Basically this arguement is like saying that CS is shit because there are more idiots/cheaters etc... than, say, Quake 2. But considering the vast majority of people play cs, then thats how its gonna be.

I buy AMD simply because its cheap and fast. I can put up with a reboot every now and again. I would like to say something about INTEL but i dont know anyone who has one.

Yeah, I agree. Intel are like designer label clothes - You pay more money, and for what: A logo? I just don't understand what the attraction is to P4 - Yes they're fast but they are a rip off. Athlon is gonna kill P4 for the rest of the year - I can feel it.
