Steve Irwin of Australia, also known as "Crocodile Hunter" is dead. Apparently he was killed by a stingray while shooting a movie. He was 44 years old.

According to emails from our office down under, the stingray skewered him through the chest with its barb.

When I first heard I thought ha ha, then felt bad beacause he had wife kids etc. Feel for those he left behind. It's a pity he will be remembered for dangling his baby son in front of a croc as much for any of the good work he did to conserve animals.

I really liked watching Steve Irwin on TV. All the crazy stuff he would get up to. He's got two young children. For me, his enduring legacy will be a passionate love of wildlife coupled with an intense love of the animals he looked after. Truly a great guy. You'll be missed, Steve.

You could say a great deal about the man and some would question some of his antics but no one could question his enthusiasm or love of what he did.

Just had an argument at work with someone who was ''happy'' he died because of the way he mistreated animals.

I then proceeded to tell the wanker how much he did for wild life and conserving endangered species and that he never mistreated any animals (as if you can mistreat a crocodile ??/ and he always did his best to make sure they were secure and safe.) Noone has done more then him to protect wildlife.

May he rest in peace i am sure Geography Channel will have a in memory marathon of Steve Irwin and his programs.

As far as I know Steve Irwin NEVER mistreated animals. He loved them with a passion and went out of his way to conserve them. He set up Australia Zoo FFS.

The one memory that sticks in my mind of Steve Irwin, is the time he fell of a cliff. Hes holding on to the edge for dear life with the camera crew and his wife trying to help him back up, yet hes more concerened with the rare plant that is growing out of the side of the cliff!
