They're definitely dangerous things.

I got one (Egg) for myself after needing to buy several things from the States and having to jump through hoops borrowing my Dads card, etc because - like you - I was in a similar position, only had a Switch card which no one worth their salt would accept.

After convincing myself beforehand that it would purely be a "for purchases that require it and nothing else" I quickly found myself buying stuff I would've otherwise thought twice about (or needed to save up for) because, well, I could. I didn't get into any trouble or anything but the last 6 months or so I've basically paid off about £2000 off my two cards (I got a MINT card to do a 0% balance transfer from the Egg card).

If I had a choice about it I'd stick with just having a Switch card - definitely safer.

Anyway is worth mentioning that Barclaycard have withdrawn the extended warranty, but they have just added Internet Delivery Protection which sounds great for online buyers and something Clown could have used in his thread.
Pretty much any credit card company will cover you for losses over the net either from people fraudulently using your card, or from dodgy couriers etc.

if your only gonna use a cc for one thing, just cut the bugger up as soon as you have used it then cancel the agreement with the company after paying it off. but if you plan it out your never gonna get in trouble.

to me. credit card is like a time bomb i am carrying everywhere considering the possiblity of its loss and used by others
well, its pretty similar to having a debit card, in fact even though your average credit card probably has more £££ on it that your average debit card, with a credit card if you report it stolen asap you wont lose a penny, with a debit card, you may well lose a fair bit of money - honestly I rekon credit cards, when used responsibly and with care, are far better then debit cards. Once iv graduated and got a job, il get a credit card instead of my switch card - no fucking way im gonna give myself the kind of temtation a CC offers while im unemployed, already about £500 under and got a beer habit comparable to a small village pubs entire sales volume of a night.

I'm only liable for £50 of fraudulent purchases on my switch if I report it stolen, so it;s not really that dangerous.

Phone them and tell them that you didn't agree to have insurance, you only said you would think about it, and ask them to cancel it and refund you. Almost all the time these insurance offers are a waste of money.

Another question about Credit Cards :s

I recently purchased a Creative Zen Micro a few weeks ago, which because of the price, i decided to use the Credit Card.

The billing date has restarted, so i have until late march to pay up.

I decided as usual to make payments as soon as possible to get it out the way, but upon putting through the process, it said maximum i could pay was £100, and not the whole amount (£170).

I didnt think much of it, i paid the £100 and decided to wait a few more days to pay the extra £70. About 3 days have past now, and when i go to make payment, it says:

Amount you wish to pay:

Minimum (£0.00)
Maximum (£0.00)

When i enter my details, it wont let me put in the extra £70, i popup says:

You are restricted to minimum payment only in this billing cycle

I didnt have this problem last month, when i had to pay over £100 again :/

If your credit card won't let you pay off the debt in full each month, get rid of it.

I've had a Barclaycard VISA for over a year now, and I've never had a problem paying off the outstanding balance each month.

Give their customer services a call and ask what's going on and why you can't make a further payment. I suspect that's the only way you'll get an answer.

My gf's new Barclaycard VISA has the same problem, max of £100 payment. I suspect this is simply via the web banking interface to try and restrict fraud possibilities. I'm sure that if you go into a bank with the details you can pay it off in full.

It does seem somewhat strange though, especially if there's no help/about links on the page to explain WHY there's an upper limit.

Fortunately it doesn't matter too much right now as she got 3 months 0% interest.

I often use the web interface to pay my Barclaycard off, I've never had a problem paying more than £100.

Phoned em today, said what Athan said

That really sucks now :/ If its the case im gonna be using the Credit Card less and less, they said alternate means for the extra money to be paid, and there is no way to remove this limit :/

Gonna have to get banks phone number and make payment that way.. Or use the bank account website and transfer the money across, but need to find the statement apparently for my credit card as it holds a reference number :/
