Most of you are probably fully aware of the troubles Creative Labs are having making some of the older hardware work with Vista.

For instance, the Audigy 2. Creative have not long announced that if you wish to have DirectSoundesque support in Vista, you'll have to PAY them for the new application/layer (ALchemy, an OpenAL layer basically) !

Fuck sake.

Yes, or pay for said software upgrade.

It's been common knowledge that Creative have been looking down the plughole for a while now but this is just showing how desperate they actually are.

I was quite happy with my ZS, however now using onboard sound (Soundstorm) and XP whilst other drivers & software catches up with Vista, and vice versa.

Was gonna ask if anyone wanted a ZS btw, just got one of the gold ones from work ;)

I dislike mentioning this here, but you could most probably find the new software upgrades on a couple of torrent sites. Not the most legal way, but is one of the few ways to get around what ever price tag they're giving.

=< Hope you get it sorted.

Overdriven, I know exactly what you mean and the folks who will need to use that certainly won't be buying it.

It's not gonna be around for a fair while, but when it does, Creative are gonna wonder why noone's paying for software they shouldn't need to.

JBP : I started to wonder if Creative have been bought out by Apple, as their marketing schemes seem to be getting just as haywire.

Lol, a company charging for driver upgrades? Throw the card away and use something else. They are clearly going titsup if they think charging is a good idea. Fucking retards, audigy 2 isnt old, awe 64 is OLD. And even that works on XP :(

/edit Creative have had at least a year to write these new drivers, there is absolutely no reason why they are still not releasing the software. They are a huge company fgs, they should have just sent a few guys over to redmond to sit around coding up the drivers with the vista guys for a couple of days. MS needs every extra bit of hardware compat they can get.

They're not so much drivers - basically a wrapper so you can still use EAX extensions in games due to the lack of DirectSound.

But yeah, they've had long enough to do it....

So, whats first - pirating ALchemy or Vista SP1
