lol Creatine makes ure dick shrink :p

All exercise makes ure dick shrivel up ... but not shrink ... same as a cold shower ;)

I know afew people who take Creatine and it doesnt seem to do em any harm ... but there is widespread speculation that it is a link to heart problems @ a young age (however this may be linked with the fact its designed for short bursts of stress from weights etc which also goes hand in hand with heart problems if overdone)

I believe myself its only for the extreme hardcore and wouldnt touch it ... but thats just me ... also i agree with Bira !

Clueless ftw. Why on earth would creatine make your dick shrink? Yes certain steroids may cause this to happen but only in prolonged use

The only real documented problems associated with Creatine are kidney problems IF you already have exisitng kidneys problems, or you use it incorrectly.

Hardly extreme hardcore, most sports coaches will supplement it to their athletes nowadays :p

HAHAHA! those that find Creatine bad, should read about their own body to be honest.. Creatine DO NOT BUILD MUSCELS! but increase ur endurance during a workout session! EVERYONE got Creatine allready in their body, its just like using proteins and carbos..

i dont care for the scientific crap, as i got friends that have worked on a gym and used it aswell, that knows about this. Tho there are different types of creatine, and if you use them wrong it end up with diaré etc, this goes for monohydrat. What he states for water is true, but its just to drink more water when you take it.

For those that are about to use it, take a 5 week upkeep with it, read instructions carefully on the maintainer. after 2 months use, stop for another month and repeat the session. Do not use it all the time, get used to work yourself down and up for smooth muscels.

those that finds this bad, go to a gym and ask those about it, they give you the dam same answer!! and again LOL!!

Clarification

Hey everybody,

The post that kicked of this thread consists mainly of an email I sent to a friend concerning the use of creatine. The fact that I wasn’t expecting it to be made public explains its’ informal tone and the rather bald statements made.
I’m going to deal with some of the posts made in response.

Re: ‘‘swords’’ first post

‘’ I find it amusing that you mention scientific fact in one paragraph and end that ’’ same paragraph with underlined speculation.

I’m unsure as to what exactly amused you so much about that paragraph. If I was to
begin a paragraph with a discussion of gravity and end said paragraph with a
mention of leprechauns, in no way would it invalidate what went before it. Perhaps you are just easily amused? I’m a bit like that myself.

I was speculating based on available evidence. A study appeared in Proceedings: Biological Sciences, published by Britain's Royal Society, in 2003.
The study, Rae et al (2003), involved 45 young adult vegetarian subjects in a double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment.
It found that people taking creatine at levels commonly used to boost sprint
performance in sport, i.e. 5g/day, were better are remembering long numbers. Those
taking the supplement could recall on average 8.5 digits, compared to seven for the control group - a 20% difference.
They also performed better in a pattern recognition test that is well-validated as an assessment of general intellectual ability or IQ. This is to be expected as creatine plays a crucial role in maintaining energy levels in the brain. So, ‘‘swords’’, I feel I was quite justified in claiming that creatine use ‘‘could make you smarter’’. As I said, I was writing to a friend and I didn’t feel the need to fully justify everything I said due to that whole ‘‘trust thing’’ friends have going on. The papers title is The paper: Oral creatine monohydrate supplementation improves brain performance: a double-blind, placebo controlled, cross-over trial.

You make an interesting point, ‘‘swords’’, about the increase in protein synthesis. However, I don’t believe that all the increase in protein synthesis is accounted for by cell responses to osmotic pressure. Dangott et al. (2000)(Dietary creatine monohydrate supplementation increases satellite cell mitotic activity during compensatory hypertrophy, International Journal of Sports Medicine 2000 Jan;21(1):13-6.) shows that creatine supplementation increased the number of myonuclei donated from satellite cells. (I gather from your post that you have some experience in biochemistry)

Another study that I will cite to back up my case is Volek et al.( Performance and muscle fiber adaptations to creatine supplementation and heavy resistance training. Med Sci Sports Exerc 1999 Aug;31(8):1147-56 ) Creatine supplementation enhanced fat-free mass, physical performance, and muscle morphology in response to heavy resistance training..it's not just osmotic stress proteins being produced here...

Re: Sollers

Studies have reported that it takes about four weeks after cessation of creatine supplementation for muscle creatine (Vandenberghe et al., 1997, Long-term creatine intake is beneficial to muscle performance during resistance training. Journal of Applied Physiology, 83, 2055-2063. ) and phosphocreatine (Febbraio et al., 1995, Effect of creatine supplementation on intramuscular TCr, metabolism and performance during intermittent, supramaximal exercise in humans. Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 155, 387-395) content to return to normal. It is unclear whether muscle the content falls below normal thereafter. Although more research is needed, there is no evidence that creatine supplementation causes a long-term suppression of creatine synthesis when supplementation stops (Balsom, Soderlund & Ekblom, 1994 ,Creatine in humans with special references to creatine supplementation. Sports Medicine, 18, 268-280; Hultman et al., 1996 Muscle creatine loading in man. Journal of Applied Physiology, 81, 232-237)..It is non-sensical to suggest that your body would shut down it’s production of creatine indefinitely..the creatine phosphate system is an integral part of cell metabolism.
I have never encountered a study linking creatine with cardiomegaly. Perhaps you might cite your references? It should not be forgotten that prolonged physical exertion brings on natural, nonthreatening enlargement of heart tissue.

‘‘ Be a sport and get bigger the old fashioned way. Don't try to look cool with fake ’’
water-filled muscles, Creatine effects, and therefore your 'uber' muscles, aren't there to stay anyway.

This is an utterly ignorant remark to make. Your body makes creatine, you ingest about 1-2g a day in your diet and everyone uses it whether they like it or not. Thus it is idiotic to claim that I am I some way ‘cheating’ my way to being bigger and stronger.
My muscles aren’t here to stay if I were to stop training, no. They would atrophy like they did during my recent 4 month absence from weight-training. So would yours ‘‘ Sollers’’ and everybody else’s, regardless of whether you were taking creatine. If I continue weight-training and taking creatine, they will keep getting bigger and stronger. As I said, I took 4 months off training, drinking and smoking my way around Toronto and got as weak as fuck. Within 6 weeks of being back training, without creatine use, my max bench was 92 1/2kg (with proper powerlifting form, i.e pause at bottom) . I take nearly 3 weeks off upperbody weights, but in the meantime I started loading creatine. I was in the gym there yesterday and I knocked out 2 sets of 5 reps of 90kg on the bench. Creatine is a wonder supplement and anyone with a bit of sense should be on it. The only issue I see with it is the gas it gives you, which in my case, is pretty fucking bad.
Re: ’Fatload BoysDoCry’’
60 years ago they said smoking wasn’t dangerous did they? Hmm. That depends on who you were listening to. Research done by Fritz Lickint, in Weimar Germany, published a series of detailed reviews of smoking and lung cancer trends, of ecological associations, autopsy series, experimental annual studies, and clinical reports which, he already considered in 1929, left no doubt that tobacco smoke was a major cause of lung cancer. Nazi-era research established a definite link between smoking and lung cancer. If you were to do your own research ‘’Fatload BoysDoCry’’, instead of believing in hearsay, you might know that nicotine is one of the oldest botanical pesticides with the average lethal dose for an adult human estimated to be between 30 to 60 milligrams (mg). That makes it more deadly than strychnine or arsenic. Tobacco was never safe.
