CPU Heatsink Housing?

Hiya,

Quick thing - I'm trying to find a replacement for a cracked CPU Heatsink housing, or whatever it's called. Basically it's a P4 mobo (not sure what socket :\) but it's the black plastic bit that sits around the cpu and the heatsink/fan clips on to. The bits it clips on to have snapped and I need to find a replacement - I've just unscrewed the broken one so it should be very straightforward to replace if I can find the part.

TIA!

You probably want to tell people what motherboard you have.

Three corners of the bit have shattered - clown I'm not so worried about the exact one, I just want to know if it's possible to get the bit and if so where. I'll worry about the specifics later.

edit: found a pic

*Bump* :\

So no one has a clue what that bit would be called/if it's purchaseable?

Nath, some heatsinks come with their own brackets. It's possible that a specialist OC/cooling shop could have some.

example: I have a coolermaster hyper48 heat sink. it came with it's own bracket. problem solved.

Get a new Zalman Heatsink, they are generally much better at cooling, and a lot quieter. Due to their design they require special mounting, which gets around the problem you have (the only problem is you'll probably have to remove your motherboard to add the mount).

Any of the Aero Flowers are great, or the CPNS7000's if you are on a budget: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Zalman_CPU_Coolers.html

Same thing happened to my CPU housing, i tried to get a new one but had no luck, i ended up using a tiewrap (2 joined together actually), underneath the housing and around the top of the heatsink, worked a treat.

If this machine was for me, I'd definitely look in to that, but it's for a client so I'd rather avoid setting myself up for more work than is necessary. I just realised I might have the part in another machine that's now dead. I'll check there.

I've found the bit I want on a site called kustompcs but I find the k very offputting :\

I always just called them mounting clips/brackets. I don't know if they are all standard, which is why I thought the motherboard model might help.

Ok cheap as you can then!

Think the official name for it is a retention frame. They tend to be pretty standard for the socket, to make fitting coolers easier.
