Hi,

I've never played BF2 but am now looking at buying it. I'm justwondering if I need to buy the Special Forces expansion pack as well or what. Can't really find anything tosay it's a must but I don't wanna be behind if I decide to buy it.

Ok, having looked further it looks liek SF just unlocks some new maps / weapons? Is this the case? If so I'm guessing it's not a pre requisite.

Expansion packs = addon packs = just new content like maps/weapons/vehicles. I would say dont get SF cos most of the maps werent that great and you will play the original for ages anyway.

make sure you've got a decent system.

i had a barton 2500+
2x512meg pc3200 (in dual mode)
nvidia 6600gt 128meg

and couldn't play the game. lowest graphics, long loading, lagging so bad i was getting slaughtered left and right.

went 64bit with
venice 3000+ oced to 2000mhz
2x512meg pc3200 (used same ram thankfully price wise)
sapphire x800gto2 256meg (with 16pipelines unlocked

game was loading slowly and lagging in game caused my skills to be lowered unnecesarily

upped the ram to 4x512meg pc3200 sticks (same brand, same model) and now the game runs smoothly.

there just aren't enough posts where people are specifically saying what their rigs were/are and the problems they had at each point.

if u like to play a more infantry base game of bf2 then u will probably like SF but u should try to play the *regular* bf2 before making the decision to buy the addon. just make sure u won't buy euro forces

The game ran fine for me on lowest settings when I had:

Athlon 2000+,
1 Gig of DDR
Raedon 9600.

The only draw back was the slow loading time - but this turned out to be a problem with my HD rather than the rest of my specs.

Upgraded to:

Sempron 64bit 3000+,
Same 1 gig of DDR and Raedon 9600
80GB Seagate SATA drive.

Maps load in 30 seconds now :) But really, the game plays fine on the minimum settings as long as you dont mind long load times.
