Coughing up any blood is a bad sign o_O,
go see/phone your doctor it may be a indicator for a much more serious problem

Probably just some tomato sauce you have eaten in the last couple of days looking for a different way to leave your body.

You'll be fine.

coughing up blood is a sign of a real man.

i was coughing up little bits once when i had a really bad cough, not like litres of the shit, but just a little spot here or there in my phlegm. didn't really worry about it.

if you're just heaving up massive clots though i'd probably go see a quack.

There's no point in not seeing a doctor about it, whether it could be serious or not.

100% agree.

It might be nothing, it might be that a facehugger planted eggs in your tummy.

Either way, it's always best to be sure.

It may just be an infection which has caused a blood vessel to burst, on the other hand as Bahu said it could be tuberculosis (which has flu like symptoms) so you could be infectious...

Phone your GP

I'm loving some of the more alarmist diagnoses like tuberculosis. :)

What's probably happening is that you've inflamed the linings of your bronchioles and they've bled ever so slightly when you've been tensing up while coughing. A fleck of blood here and there isn't really a worry, but it's a sign that maybe you should take it easy and get over the cause of the cough first.

If you've had a productive cough (that means phlegm) for more than about a week, go see your doctor anyway. If you leave it too long then you run the risk of long-term problems. I had a chest infection for 8 weeks in 2004 and I've had mild asthma ever since. I wouldn't wish that on you. :)

I went to the doctor before when I had blood in the mucus I was coughing up... he said it was nothing to worry about... it was just that when you cough hard the mucus hits the back of your throat hard and doing this lots of times will cause slight bleeding.

Go to the doctor!

if your not happy with his diagnoses,
ask for a second opinion, or to be "sent" to a specialist.

If he rejects that,
go do his wife

If you don't, he won't go as he is just posting here for an excuse not to :p

It's irresponsible to say "don't worry its nothing", when in fact it very well could be.
