Corrupt favsrvs.dat??

Everytime I try to start a Net Game I get the message that my favsrvs.dat file is corrupt. I have updated it three times now in one night. I know that this is the dat file that stores the servers but does anyone know why it always says that it is corrupt??

Despite never having used the ingame browser, not having played HL for 4months, never seeing said file, and being in a bad mood, i can see the whole situation straight away.

The file obviously stores your favourite servers. If you have a big list of favourites, then you might wanna try rescuing them, however the best thing to do is to delete it, and it should be recreated automatically when you start HL.

well i was right on re installing something, plus, he may have to re install CS anyhow?

No, he can just delete the file, and save himself the hassel of reinstalling. If he didn't delete the dir himself first, a reinstall probebrly wouldn't even change the favourites file.

If you had taken time out of your bad mood to actually READ my post it said that I am aware of what is in the file. I had a list of less than 12 favourites so I don't think THAT would be too many.

I have replaced the file three times and each time I go back to play CS I get the error message that the file is corrupt.

Any more suggestions??

What do you mean 'replaced'? If you've deleted it, and the game still complains then rm the dir, and reinstall. However it seems more likely that you're doing something retarded to it everytime rather than deleting it...

Ini - when you finished playing CS did it shutdown properly ?
Ive been having the corrupt message as well - thing is that the CS crashes on me a few times a night.

ShockingAlberto - do you actually know what the favsrvs.dat file does. If he deleted it, he would have to UPDATE the server list all over again.

Yup same thing is happening for me.

I deleted my corrupt favourite server file, but then an update didn't work either, only found about 500 out of 13000 servers; and they didn't include BW, or anything else I wanted!

I was only doing this cos I couldn't get ASE to work properly either. I found it was easier to sort that prob than the one with the ingame browser.

BTW CS won't close for me know, I keep getting an illegal occurence whenever I leave a game. Not a great problem except that putting desktop back to 1024x768 every time is a pain.

Actually Alberto has a point.

All you have to do is open the file in notepad, and copy its contents. Then delete the file, luanch CS and start an update, you dont have to finish it. Quit CS (you may or may not have to select at least one servers as a favourite to get the file rewritten by hl), open the new file and paste your favourites into it.
