Aye, exactly the gamers they're iscolating :/ Oh, and the gamers using other Unices that have had Q2 ported to them since the source release.

TdC or Bids will probebrly be able to offer more input than me, but having started using Linux sometime in November, with RedHat7.2, i found it easish to get used to, but not too limiting - However i think if i installed it today, the lack of WMs, and their stupid install types would do my head in.

yeh all those gamers they are isolating.. about 5 out of the entire q2 community you cant expect them to go through entirely coding a new version just for *nix users.. youve read what they have to say about it on the savage forums, so either get a windows box or give up q2, coz everywhere will be forcing q2ace soon

Well, actually i haven't seen what they've said on the Savage Forums, because i don't read the Savage boards

If it's a question of clan games, or clan servers where all the '1337' types hang out, then fine, however it isn't - It's a question of independant servers, and GSPs alike, limiting the OS choice of their users. I got the impression from DeathAce, that BW won't be using it, which is nice - Just a pitty BW don't have a popular RA2/Instagib server.

As it happens, it wouldn't be a question of coding a new version for Unix games, it would be a case of them writing cleaner(portable and standards compliant) code, and then keeping the anti-cheat parts seperate from the windows specific files, so that both Windows and Unix trees could be worked on with little extra administritive effort.

no shocking, you should read teh savage boards, there are integral parts of the q2ace project that use win api calls that mean they would have to make a significantly altered version for linux users, also even if they made a *nix version the most important command (p_auth) which makes the clients reply with a text string based on checksums performed on the .exe and .dll to make sure it hasnt been hacked (the text string replied by each client should be identical) - the replies of the *nix and windows versions would be different and as there are so few *nix users in q2 it would often mean that only one person would be using the *nix version, as such there would be no other replies to check against ( when windows ones reply all should be the same, but if theres only one *nix client there are no others to check it against)

yadda yadda yadda read it 20 times on savage forums, if you are wanting a version for *nix users i suggest you go there and find a thread about it and make your feelings known along with any other *nix q2 players you know who want a different version, as so far there have only been 2 ppl asked for a *nix version which makes it noth worth the q2ace teams while to make one, i fmore ppl made a noise about it they may think harder about it.

I've seen this [Promethius] guy only once, on Office, think i was with your guys Trem, but he was only there, 10-15mins before he fecked off, never heard a squeak from him lol
