Depends how "one-clicky" you want it to be. I would go with VirtualDub myself but that's not really one-click at all.

You could try Freemake Video Converter.

The tv is not networked or wireless, and no disrespect @russell. that would be a bit technical for her

That seems...unlikely. What make and model of telly is it?

I use AVIdemux just open the file then pick Save, pick where and what name you want and it will spit out an AVI.
