I want to try and use a CMS to try and build a website around. I have the following choices but have no idea which one would be best:

Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla 1.5
Mambo
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
TYPO3
Xoops

This is purely for me to mess about with and something new to learn...

Any ideas?
Thank you!

modx is worth a look at. php, very modular and extendable.

Personally I'd stay away from anything Nuke on that list. Too bulky imho.

I think I might go with Joomla or Drupal as they seem to be the most popular...

drupal is a fork from joomla from a couple years back. you may want to look at the rationale of the time to decide between the two. there are a lot of similarities.

This is a lot more complicated than I thought it might be... :(

I know you guys tend to dismiss Microsoft, but SharePoint Services 3.0 is free, scalable with Sql (even Express afaik), based on .net framework and works like a charm.

I have installed Joomla but its now located at www.mywebsite.com/cms which is fine but if I go to www.mywebsite.com it doesn't have an index.php file....this file is under the /cms folder!

I can't see where in Joomla I can change this file location so that the main page is not under the cms folder...

hmms

I'll have to uninstall it and install without the /cms bit i think...

Use a DNS ALIAS?
Or redirect root to /cms.

Thank you for the suggestions!
The choices are all quite similar...

The problem I am now encountering is how do I have a new template and then point it to the CMS...this doesn't seem to be covered anywhere...
