Anyone here wear daily disposables?

I'm about to go on an exercise and wondered whether I'd get away with wearing a set of daily disposable contacts for around 36 hours.

I know the name sort of implies not, but I've heard alot to suggest otherwise and was wondering if anyone's actually tried it?

Obviously not something to do often - would be a once off for convenience on a 2-day ex where I'm not likely to get enough time or a decent enough level of cleanliness to change them.

Alternative is glasses, but anyone who's seen army issue specs knows how much the "joe 90's" are to be avoided :)

Any help much appreciated!

spectacles 4tw

I wouldn't give a feck what they looked like

Running around the breckon beacons for 36 hours SAS style. Rain, mud, wind, freezing cold, no rations, surviving on the land, trying to avoid enemy detection etc etc

you get shit in your mince pies, splash of water, quite rinse of the specs, job done

get a load of shite mixed up with contact lenses, you'll know about it, the lenses will be useless or lost & then what?

Glasses are sexy, especially nerdy ones held together with tape!...red oozing eyes; not so much tbh.

Bad enough after 16 hours, they dry up too much and work loose. Get laser, in your profession it would be wise

Cheers for the advice :D

May well just stick them in and take the glasses as well so if I have to blink the daily's out and switch to joe 90 mode I can do so.

Not so sure about laser - heard rumblings of it affecting elligability for certain jobs but may well look into it at some point... at the moment contacts are ideal for me :)

Ez the taped glasses of self-destruction self-destructed a while ago :( One of the lenses fell out while I was on a course so they're pretty useless now... and those army issue ones are just hideous  makes me look like eric morcambe or something! (who actually looks like my grandad, strange but true)

Ok well I can advise on the laser, I had wavefront lasik done 4 years ago last month. Was the best money I have ever spent, my eyesight is beyond 20:20 still and because I went for wavefront which is more expensive but way more accurate I didn't end up with the 'halo' effect around bright lights at night. Train drivers can have wavefront done but not cheapo lasik because of the 'halo's' around signal lights.

In short, the expensive one is the way to go, the cheap shitty one advertised on TV for £300 per eye is a bigger risk than I would advise anyone to take and nearly always leaves you suffering with the 'halo' effect.

Personally, no regrets at all and the surgery was a peice of piss. 15 mins in the chair, no pain just uncomfortable. Then a couple of days with dry itchy eyes that are sore and you can't touch. After that it was a total breeze.

You can get some lenses you can leave in all night, but I don't know the details.

I used to wear lenses all the time when i lived in London but have stopped since i moved to Qatar (too much dust /sand) due to the climate. You can buy lenses that are ok to wear for days /weeks at a time though it is not recommended by the optician.

Glasses are great until the break and it sounds to me that you doing some hard core stuff while on the trip so either by a set of the old indestructable NHS glasses that they used to give out for free or keep spares of lenses, just incase.

Yes, forgot about this. You need to see your optician because they aren't suitable for everyone.

I cannot stress enough what a bad idea it is to leave normal lenses, especially disposables in for more than a day - or to sleep in them. They will roll behind your eye and cause incredible amounts of discomfort. So not only will you be blind on exercise, but you'll be clawing at your eye like a nutter. go with the Army specs for now.

How much did you pay? Out of interest

Iirc it was £2800 or so for the total package including 2 year aftercare. Alot more than the shit you see advertised but to be honest if my vision stays good for 10 years then it has more than paid for itself in the savings on contact lenses, fluid and glasses.

Yeah if it's 10 years, it's just a bit over a subscription fee to an MMO.

Which, ironic enough, might be the reason you needed it :D

So is that how long they reckon it lasts? You need another procedure every decade?

Laser is non reversible and non repeatable. Your eye sight will degrade naturally.

The next thing on the horizon, is a reversible surgery where they implant a glass lens into your eye. The lens can be changed if your eye sight changes.

10 years is generally the minimum it lasts, Wavefront is very tissuesparing though only removing 25% of the tissue the other technologies remove. That would mean it is possible to have a retreatment years down the line. Lasek and bog standard Lasik do not really offer that option, once it is done you are generally stuck with the results, not so with Wavefront.

4 years on my eyesight today is as good as it was when my eyes fully healed a few months after surgery, beyond 20:20.

No mate, too much wanking over internet porn, I cannot deny the truth. :p

12 hour days staring at work screens or 12 hour days driving didn't help either. :p

Reversible. Of course not, retreatable. Definately, infact my cousin is going back in next week to have her left eye altered as she isn't happy with the result and the surgeon said it would be an easy correction after a new wavefront scan.

Used to have monthly lenses, got with them well enough - slept with them in for up to a week at a time with no real problems!

The problem with them is that if you lose one lense of monthly's its a huge waste when compared to the minor inconvenience of losing a daily.

After losing a couple of monthly's and almost losing several others I kinda thought it would work out cheaper with dailys :D

Wavefront thing sounds great, but sadly a little out of my price-range right now!

End-Ex, kept the daily contacts in for around 40 hours without any real drama's :)

Not something to do often, I suspect, but good to know its possible when options are limited!

Off to the opticians today to get a few weekly/monthly sets just for this kind of thing I think.

I use Acuvue Oasys. They're 2 week disposables. You can keep them in for the whole 2 weeks but i prefer to remove them each night.

They're extremely comfortable dukat and they prevent your eyes from drying out. I pay £22 for 3 pairs. They're the best lenses I have had, I recommend them !
