Contact at DABs

Guys,

Does anyone on here have any contact or experience with DABS regarding the payment methods?

I know someone who is going to be spending >£1000 on goods, but wishes to pay by Switch (not Visa or credit cards)

Do you know if they do take switch as a payment method?

Yes. But they no longer accept it.

I would seriously advise against using switch for a purchase of that value.

If something goes wrong you will find it hard to get any comeback on your purchase (i.e goods don't arrrive and no one accepts responsibility)

Given the recent experience of a friend with Dabs I would advise not touching them with a 10ft sh*tty bargepole !

Parents buy a mobo and chip for an Xmas prezzie -- arrives mid december and all wrapped up etc -- come Xmas day its opened and one of the pins on the chip is all bent....

No probs you may think - Dabs site says you have 28 days to return faulty goods --- nope when contacted they say they should have been told within 7 days and anyway they dont believe it was broken it must have been him that bust it so *EDITED* off (heh well thats a slight misquote but you get the idea :) )

Basically once they had th cash they didnt seem to give a damn

Very odd that one lynchet.. I can only say they've been very helpful and efficient whenever i've used them in the past. Certainly for ordering parts online i'd much rather use Dabs than anyone else (scam, etc..).

You must of confused them lynchet, you can even return the order online by looking at previous purchases in your account page.

I've returned several bits to them even when they haven't had to take them back they have agreed to

They weren't confused - just nasty - I don't know what would have happened if he had gone directly through online returns but by contacting them first -- here is an excerpt of an email they sent:

But the main issue is, that due to the damage caused on the product, the warranty is now void, and therefore we are unable to assist further. You have had possession of the goods for long enough to check if the pins where bent on arrival, and therefore we can only assume that this damage has been caused after delivered to you, unless of course you can prove otherwise.

This was after explaining it was a present so he only saw it on Xmas day -- and still well within their 28 day return time anyway.

Never had any problems with Dabs. Always had great service and recieved the item(s) before I've had chance to blink.

They need a gold star smiley or something. Oh hang on that thumbs up thing will do.

Only ever had one problem with DABs, they charged my card twice but one phone call and about 48hours later, I got refunded without any hassle at all.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Sorted.

He basically said "screw you" to dabs and bought the goods somewhere else.

I used to use dabs, but the only time I had to contact them regarding the whereabouts of an order that should have been next day delivery, they ignored me.

I contacted them again a couple of days later to be told that they have 10,000 emails a day so the odd few go missing and to basically stop moaning.

Thats not really my problem is it? If you have too many emails a day, improve your service to reduce the number of complaints or get more staff. Deleting my email isnt an option.

Needless to say ebuyer and microdirect now get my trade.

On a different track is there any particular reason(s) why people can't use Credit Cards ? What circumstances are needed, besides the obvious ones of bad debt and crime, to refuse an issue of a Credit Card ?

I have two cards now, neither has a standing charge and one even pays me cash back on purchases, so there can't be any financial reason.

Enlighten me.

People can use credit cards, it's some debit cards that are no longer accepted.

Nos I think Cama meant "why do people choose not to use CC's?" to which I suppose one answer is that some people prefer not to have CC's, something I can sympathise with, they make it far too easy to get yourself into debt. Some people simply don't trust themselves with them, fair enough.

Exactly... I don't trust myself with one! My bank fell all over itself to offer me a credit card when I turned 18... pfft I'll stick with my Switch for now...

From a personal finance point Debit cards are safer. You are at least only spending money that you have. I tend to use Debit day to day, I find it easier to know were I'm up to balance wise. CC for online/large purchases though because of the guarantees that you get with a CC.

Ahh, but credit cards are so handy. Just make sure you pay it off every month, its like a loan on your paycheck. And your purchase is insured.

I won't even use debit cards in shops, I insist on using cash as much as possible for some reason. I think I'm subconsciously desperate to get mugged.

I always pay mine off, by direct debit, not because I'm a goody goody but that gets you cashback, not much as its only around 0.5% now, but imagine I have everything, including most household bills going through, it amounts to hundreds of £s.

You can limit CC spending simply by asking for a lower limit.

And as a short term loan, i.e. 3 months or less, very few options give you a better deal than a CC>

Theoretically you can borrow your limit on a card, and bounce the balance around indefinately, since so many cards now offer no interest on balance transfers for 6 months. Stick that money in an ISA...;)

I dont use CC's or Debit Cards... if i have something i want online, i'll get my mate to order it for me, because i dont have a clue about money issues... If its not online, i'll use Cash to purchase something

I find my CC invaluable for larger purchases, as it's like a loan but with an extremely flexible repayment structure. Pay back half of it this month, then pay barely any for a couple of months, then pay back a big whack etc.

Ok, I may pay more interest than on a rigidly structured loan, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

On the, 'Ooh i wouldn't trust myself with a Credit Card', argument. Thankfully, I'm blessed with the intelligence necessary to do the simple maths involved in calculating wether or not I can afford something. I guess I'm just lucky like that.

Your all mad :)

Credit Cards are a safety net. You can buy stuff you need and then pay it back end of the month and there was no problem. Now imagine you buy something and a expensive component in your PC/Car blows you can't afford it but you can get it repaired straight away and pay it when you can.

IE. I bought my new iPAQ PocketPC and my xmas presents in December but have been made redundant (And wasn't paid for December when I worked it :( ) and don't have the money to pay for them, so I can fend off the problem by paying the minimum repayment and getting a reasonably small interest charge and can pay it off when I'm able

If I had bought it on Debit I would now be in serous trouble :)

Hence why I recommend a credit card...
