Went on holiday for 4 days, come back and my computer is dead, won't boot up at all.

The first thing that happens when I turn it on is the monitor says no VGA signal then monitor goes to sleep. Then sometimes the computer beeps, 2 beeps then a long beep. It doesn't even get to the BIOS setup screen.

I've cleaned the whole computer and reseated all the components but the problem is still there.

Anyone have any ideas I can try? I can't afford to buy another computer and don't have access to another computer to diagnose the problem.

PCI-E Radeon sapphire hd4850 gfx card
600w power supply

I can't remember the rest, any help is appreciated.

Yank the battery out for a minute, put it back in AND use the bios reset jumper. If that still makes no difference reseat all memory, try it without the graphics card.
If you've a spare PSU or a pc you can nick one from also try that.

The beeps mean one thing good - CPU and motherboard are *likely* to be fine. It could be RAM so a reseating often helps but try removing one stick then trying the other also.

My guess, you're 4850 is borked. Had nothing but probs with those cards.
As above, post what motherboard you're using exactly and then you can google the beepcode that's telling you what's wrong.

Motherboard is a ipibl-la burckley.
The BIOS I'm not sure, came with the computer, it's a a6150.uk GM431AA hp.

I've managed to find another gfx card and some old working ram. Put the other gfx card in and still saying no VGA signal. Tried the other ram in all different slots, still won't boot up. It's also sometimes doing 2 beeps, 1 short then 1 long.

I'll try the battery thing abit later and get back to you.

Well I managed to get my hands on another motherboard, turns out that my old motherboard had surged or something, breaking itself, 1 RAM piece and both system files on my hard drives. Had to reformat one of my drives to get this PC working. I'm just glad everythings sorted now.

I hope you managed to get your own files off the drive before formatting?
USB drive caddies really are a worthwhile purchase.

Good to hear you found the problem, but it's a pain when the mobo goes.

I got my files off before formatting but strangely it didn't delete my files, it put them in a folder called windows.old. The rig is not as quick but I don't play games on it currently so it doesn't bother me. I'll either buy a equivalent motherboard or buy a new pc in a few months.
