connection probs - help?

Hi
For no apparent reason, when i connect to the net, my pc is suddenly giving me the blue screen treatment - "a fatal error oe has occured...."
the close program dialog box sometime has the file mprexe.exe as not responding, and sometimes not.
i recently installed directx 6.1, but have gone back to 6.0, with no change.
i have pII350, win 98, internal k56 modem (poo), and a banshee graphics card.

i can't play quake2 and this troubles me, any ideas?.......

I am using ie5, its been fine since i dl it when it came out. Do you think thats whats caused my pear shape-ness?
can it be cured?
or do i have to lose ie5?

have u tried the ie5 update? I'm sure there is one, and i'm sure I installed it myself. but quote me on it
