Connection overflowing?

Not sure where to ask about this.

Basically problem is when I join an internet game or refresh a large server list (eg. steam server list). Programs like IRC and MSN all get dissconnected. Then reconnect after ive loaded the game or the refresh is complete.

Im guessing my upload is overflowing, any ideas on how i can stop this happening? (NTL 512k cable)

you could try running a bandwidth limiter of some sort. a program where you define how much bw a given protocol can use out of your connection speed. I don't know any one windows though, sorry

someone said it might be a problem with using zone alarm anyone else heard this?
