GOA and Wannadoo

Just stuck a traceroute on the technical board so folks can see precisely where my connection goes haywire, but to nobody's suprise (I suspect we all knew...) it's Wannadoo yet again.

Somewhere in the back of my brain I seem to remember that Wannadoo either own, or are a major shareholder in, GOA - am I imagining that, and if not please GOA, find a new service provider - Wannadoo are pathetic

Doh, engage brain and spot the clue - seeing as it's the Wannadoo logo all over the bloody DAOC box, I guess they are rather heavily involved - but they are still pathetic...

we can only hope :(

edit: its still goa fault then if wanadoo own goa then its wanadoo:GOA fault and if not goa fault for still using wanadoo

Repeated post -

S'alright for me, down to london, then over to france :) 16 hops.

:p

Pity I'm not playing atm :(

It's NOT a problem with goa, and I doubt it's an easily fixable problem with Wanadoo to be honest. It's just that somewhere in the internet ether something broke, now switch your flamethrowers off for gods sake.

Before someone says I wouldn't be acting like this if I'd got connection problems, I would be the same. Yes, it's annoying, but for gods sake, things break in the computing world. You have to be patient.

If you're going to cancel you account, do it, and bugger off. There's no point bitching goa or wanadoo out.

I've worked for several ISPs and I understand how things can go wrong - it's a fact of life I'm afraid. Put up with it.

Soooo... and who would be the perfect, 100% lag free provider? Never any packet losses, <100 pings, free candy etc.?

Name one. Please.

I never claimed I was 100% satisfied with GOA... but I don't change my cotton picking opinion like my underwear.

"Oh, they are doing a great job! Events bla bla bla"
- connection problem -
"I fucking hate GOA bla bla bla"

Get a freaking grip...

I don't care if it's DAOC or just a stupid french router. Those getting paid to make sure it works better leave smoking room and go back to work.

this really makes me laugh .

Yes its annoying when something your paying for can't be used , but shit happens .
GOA have acknowledged the prob and are trying to sort it out .
Some things take time to fix . Personally i couldn't care less if i was unable to play all night while they try to find and fix the prob .

what is wrong with goa? they should be able to run this like proffessionals. why dont they get rid of wanadoo??

I believe GOA is a France Telecom Company
I also believe Wanadoo is a France Telecom Company

Wait for it,

I'm pretty sure Opentransit is a France Telecom Company.

LD and Lag is bad but take it easy all. They've acknowledged the problem and are working on it. If you haven't noticed the Telecoms world is in a little bit of flux at the moment - if anything these types of problems may increase and some of them will have absolutely nothing to do wot GOA / Wanadoo / Opentransit.

If you are that upset about your levels of service I suggest you vote with your feet - I'm sure you won't be missed if you talk like you post (comment not specifically linked to quote above but just the general school boy flames).

the oddest thing is there seems to be a pattern of time outs to their server hope they get their heads round it

No disagreement Israfael - but the thing I'm worried about is just how OFTEN the problem turns out to be Wannadoo, it's almost a given now that if things go wrong it will be one of their routers behind it.

Unfortunatly there's not a damn thing we can do about it bar going over to the US version. Wanadoo are a crap ISP, for gods sake they bought freeserve, what more do you want.

I'm not defending them as such really it's just there's not a lot they can do to fix problems instantly. This could be anything from server crash to hardware failure to some muppet cutting the power somewhere, and it pains me to see all this crap arising.

Having been on various ISP's helpdesks I have had to deal with people like 90% of you lot ringing up and crying bloody hell when something breaks - problems are 99% of the time NOT easy to fix if they aren't fixed immediatly, and the problems may even not lie with wanadoo directly. They could have leased machines for example.

Just have a bit of damn patience. Yes I know that's easy for me to say.

Had plenty of patience friend, having been in DAOC Europe since closed beta it's been necessary at times ;)

As a network manager for a 400 user network with permanent internet links, I know we press the companies we use to make sure they have backup equipment, switchable routing, and other levels of redundancy built in to their systems that we need to go through. Yep it's expensive, but we are not inclined to accept outages of any significant length of time... I know full well it would cost GOA to negotiate such things with Wannadoo, but if their customers shout enough they will start to look into doing such a renegotiation.

Interestingly, on the traceroute the routing within opentransit.net has changed, and speeds to the server are much higher, so time to go see if it's playable yet...

i went ld just as the dwarf dude (bragnir or something) got killed in the little duelling event on mid/exc :(

i then couldnt get back on, so after beating up my computer, i went out with my gf/soon-to-be-wife and engaged in social interaction. it was quite enlightening.

What in the name of arse are you on about.

I have had DAoC for near enough 6 months now. The day i purchased the game I loaded it on.. and found out the server was down due to an Update that somehow went wrong.. i was a little worried about the future.. would this be a regular occurance?

To my suprise. nope.. apart from that and some n00bs DDOSing the server i have had NO downtime or seriousl lag in game in 6 months. 4 days in six months is bloody good really. You are all over reacting. There cant be that bad problems with the server cos I NEVER LD and i NEVER get bad lag apart from sometimes in RvR on raids where there are lots of people in a small area....

If I am not getting lots of problems then it is clearly not the servers fault. If its the server every1 would be in the same boat, but i am not so it must be a problem at ur end with the bad lag.

Talking about tonight.. well yes.. I am also experiencing the same problems.. that makes it 5 days out of 6 months.. well I am sorry.. but i REALLY dont see a problem with missing 5 days out of 6 months.. and well.. if u want a game with a better server uptime statistic then you should just leave.. not come on here and start telling the world how shit GOA and Wannadoo are... god people please just put it into perspective.

Why don't u go and do something resourceful whilst the server is in this state.. like read a book or go outside.. people who get this angry about server downtime are clearly recluses anyway..

and remember.. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN DAoC!

So since Excalibur was unplayable, Aeiedil and I logged onto Andred and decided to make some alts there. Aeiedil lasted about 20 minutes, and gave up, the lag was so bad. I stuck it out, despite four LDs in half an hour. Got to level 5 and made a bard, and got into a full group at the water beetles, where the lag was so bad that average response time for any command - heal, mezz, stand up, sit down - was 5-7 seconds. Two group members would be dead before I could get off the first heal. People were screaming, threatening to sue Mythic, quit the game forever. I didn't see anyone shouting "MYTHIC SUX LET'S ALL GO PLAY ON EURO SERVERS" but I doubt many Americans know we exist.

Just in case you think the solution is to go get a US account...

Who filed for bankrupcy today!

Acutally the US parent company and most of their US subsidarcys filled for Chapter 11 Bankrupcy protection. Completely different from bankrupcy as we know it in Europe.

As far as I know on an operational side they are still running fine.

WorldCom carry a hell of alot of traffic if they don't manage to restructure and come out of Chapter 11 then things can (and probably will) get a hell of a lot worse.

Israfael - I understand what your saying. It is annoying not being able to play - problems occur, hell every MMORPG I've played has it's issues, just goes witht he terrority.
