ok i know this is off topic, but i thought ill try here anyhow.

Right as alot of you know halo 2 is due out this week, and so im now trying to set up my PC to alow my xbox to connect through it to the net. I have a crossover ethernet wire conecting my PC to the xbox.

Right the ethernet port on my PC is built into my motherboard , aesusP4P (i think), im using AoL 8.0 to conect my PC to the net as recomened by AoL ( :p )

ok now ive followed all the guides ive seen on www.xbox.com/connect and tbh im stumped, the damn thing wont conect, my firewall is off ect just no luck.

Anyone here done this before, and have any ideas on how to set it up?

thanks in advance :fluffle:

Not knowing anything about Xbox but do you have any TCP/IP configurations you can do on Xbox? I would assume otherwise that it leans on receving a IP adress from a DHCP provided by your ISP. But anyway assuming you can configure it, have you given it a default gateway? Have you made sure you confirmed that you can ping your Xbox from your PC? have you installed any software so that your PC knows it is supposed to act as a gateway? Windows 2000 Server uses a service called Routing and Remote Access to tell the network adapters that they should route traffic inbetween. I assume you dont use server OS and in that case I believe you need a software that can do the RRAS job for your OS.

I seriously wouldn't touch AOL for any kind of online gaming, mebbe use the disk as a drink coaster thats all. Aol do seem to block random ports and filter stuff through their own servers despite your own wishes (SMTP for example).

I would try connecting via a decent ISP before blaiming any set-up of your own ;).

What OS are you running ?

Ignore all the above about configuring and pinging and gateways - ICS should handle that for you, and ignore the comments about AOL being crap, the average home user has no need for SMTP ports to be opened.

Edit: Guess the link http://www.xbox.com/en-gb/live/start/connect/sharedpc/ics.htm should be helpfull for setting and configuring ICS

Aol are crap, I deal with their crapness nearly every day of the week. In the case of smtp they don't block it they mostly force it through their own servers. I.e. you wanna use an smtp server provided by your domain hosts, aol will still force you to use aol's despite the fact that when you phone them they say they don't.

An average home internet user will be using e-mail so outgoing traffic on port 25 is kinda needed.

Anyway thats kinda irrelevant to the question originally asked, I just don't like seeing ppl saying aol isn't crap :).

tbh ive never had a real problem with AoL, unless it was something ive done, i admit there dial up sucks, but the adsl seams fine.
And im running on xp, and followed all the guilds, but i dont have the option to enable ics even though my mates PC, nearly the same as mine (still uses aol), has it and he has no probs at all.
Seams i need a full install :/
