Hi

I lost my cs config at last fdisk, having only just got it how i wanted it (im a relative newb to cs), so I had to recreate it. I'm having trouble tho .........

1 autoexec.cfg doesnt autoexec

2 config.cfg wont remember half the commands I put in it and seems to reset no matter what

3 i had to set a custom color setting on my gf2 tray thingy cos cs was so dark. but sometimes even if i switch before i enter the game, it doesnt seem to notice and is STILL dark. maybe 50% of the time this happens

4 i have some radio binds setup, but no matter how many times I '0 - Exit menu', the menu wont go! An example of one of them:

alias tkfire "radio1; menuselect 6; wt; wt; menuselect 0"

You havent used my autoexec ??
Type exec autoexec.cfg in console to make it work. If you press q net_graph will come up, press it again it will go away, then you 'll know its working

As regards your prob number 2, locate your CS config.cfg, right click it and select properties, at the bottom of the properties window uncheck the read only checkbox then open config.cfg in a program like note pad, next make the changes you want and save it, then do the properties again and uncheck the archive box and recheck the read only box, now CS shouldn't overwrite your data with a bit of luck.

Is fellin lucky so will have a stab at prob number 3, A m8 of mine had a similar prob with an Asus GF2, his problem was solved by getting rid of his Asus drivers and replacing them with the latest Nvidia drivers, and that was his prob solved.

you've actually got that working??!! I've tried many a time to get a on&off netgraph cfg to work.
Had to make do with a "hold your finger on the button while it displays" cfg.

copy into your autoexec.cfg, change the [insert key here] bit & voila.

Ch@m: You need to look in the valve.rc, or whatever it's called for CS retail, and see if it is set to exec the autoexec.

i have an autoexec (with bits from yours thanks throd ) but it just wont exec. I can manually exec it, but thats kind of defeating the object init
Shocko whats this valve.rc? I'm using retail HL patched, then the ca mod, rather than retail cs. Is it called something else in this version?
I think whats happening is that config.cfg wont hold commands that arent in it by default, such as r_drawviewmodel 0 and others. If I add them to config.cfg they arent there next time, if i add em to autoexec ...... well, it wont autoexec

Saying ``HL Retail'' causes much confusion...

Anyway, like Quake, the autoexec execs automatically because there's an entry in the real autoexec, valve.rc(obviously not called valve for quake games ). However it's the pak file for HL, so i don't think that would be your problem.

If it isn't execing your autoexec because you're putting weird stuff in it, then you could put them in another file, file.cfg, and then add the appropriate line to autoexec.cfg...
However it sounds unlikely that the autoexec wouldn't exec due to what's in it :/

use slot 10

Cham@meleon, its early and I'm having troble interpreting exactly what you are running there, am I right in saying u r using HL retail and CS mod?? if so you need the hl1108 patch and the csv13full for the mod version.

that's right mate, thats what im using. I have the patches and can get into cs fine and play ..... but i have to spend the first couple of minutes every time manually exec'ing cfg's and then every time I use radio binds I have this menu stuck on the left all the time Thanks Skyler, I'll try that slot10 thing, ta.

Add "-exec autoexec.cfg" to your CS command line. That'll fix it.

Of course, that kind of defeats the point of it being the "autoexec", but whatever works, eh?
