I don't know how it is over there in GB, but here in the US you could do better going to a trade school for 2 years. You'll leave out with an A+/Network + cert and whatever else you need to start earning big $$$.

Personally, I was a Car Audio salesman/installer for 6 years, then a music instrument salesman for 2 years before going into home mortgage lending customer service for ABN AMRO. ABN's IT division hired me in.

you can go to uni and get some valuable experience but the real money is in contracting.

you aint gunna get paid by being told by a fat bloke at the front of a lecture theatre what a nand gate is...you need printer fixing skillz.

just got this DNA (data networking assoc) thing through post today, and well, im looking forward to this stuff

min pay for say a phone systems network analyst is about 17kpa and a typical consultant/sales rep is about 30k... systems network programmer/developer/researcher is a lot... 40kpa

very good pay...
