personally if parents are letting their kids play mmorpgs unsupervised for 4 hours a night then its really the fault of the parents for not taking an interest in the child.

Although i know a lot of younger people in guilds and stuff that play daoc and thye get my respect because they act older than they are and when you realise they are 13 you think hmmm i thought they were at least 40

and if someone comes online saying Im stuck on my home work i think they are more likely to get help from the people in their guild or on forums the general comunity will probbly help them more with any problems they got than their brain dead parents who watch hours and hours of soap operas and jerry/trisha garbage.

Ill say this if any hibby pryd under 18's are stuck on homework contact me in game and ill try and help you out

maybe someone should do a homework section on the forums where we can keep our raid leaders grades high by doing it for them and throw this failiure curve out

O yeah btw Cheating and lying gets you anywhere because thats how most of the people at my university passed, just look honest when they bring you in and you will still get away with it.
not everyones parents are dumbasses, for instance my mother has a PhD in theoretical chemistry and my step dad nearly got one in genetics - but he failed cos the subject they gave him was gay. anyway, theyr both ssmart as fuck and when i was at school the only things i had problems with was stupid lessons like geography which have nothing to do with intelligence so they couldnt help me :( but if i ever neede dhelpwith hardcore maths i coudl get it np.

but daoc DID fuck up my A-levels - ok I fucked em up, but it was because i was palying daoc :D blame canada

Well I do have to admit daoc dragged my grades down SLIGHTLY, but not to a failing extent.

This was only because I lived +4 GMT and had to stay up late for toa raids and general rvr which caused me to sleep less and lose some concentration in the early minutes of my exams. {I WAS able to control myself and study btw!}

DAoC Did shit, it was your choice, your decision and your failure, no matter how slight. Next I suppose you'd blame everyone esle for being online so late? Remember, NO is always an acceptable answer when it comes to gaming, all you have to do is realise it. :)

How about spelling? That and typing could do with some work, if you want I can help you with that right now. Observe:

not everyones parents are dumbasses, for instance my mother has a PhD in theoretical chemistry and my step dad nearly got one in genetics - but he failed cos the subject they gave him was gay.

Note the lack of a capital letter at the begining of the sentence. 'Step-dad' is the correct spelling, and I assume 'cos' is short for 'because'. A subject cannot be 'gay', especially genetics, unless it was along the lines of "Dads new wife, Eric.", I doubt that however.

anyway, theyr both ssmart as fuck and when i was at school the only things i had problems with was stupid lessons like geography which have nothing to do with intelligence so they couldnt help me but if i ever neede dhelpwith hardcore maths i coudl get it np.

Again, no capital letter, and another two (2) spelling mistakes (Their and Smart I assume), plus the phrase 'as fuck' is used incorrectly, as the sentence about genetics has already closed (Plus fucking (sex) has nothing to do with being smart*). I's should be capitals, and there is supposed to be a comma (,) after 'fuck'. There are no stupid lessons, only stupid people, so that is an irrelevent and useless point to make. All knowledges and skills have something to do with intelligence as you must "learn" them, therefore your comment is meaningless. 'Couldn't' requires an apostrophe (as shown), and the ending 'neede dhelpwith hardcore maths i coudl get it np.' Should read "needed help with hardcore maths, I could get it, no problem. (although NP is an acceptable alternative)."

Afer reviewing your post I could only assume that your 'intelligence' statistic could use all the help it could get. Perhaps you should consider a cleric for your next career choice, someting with an office and lots of learning from others on a 'one-to-one' basis. Perhaps you could even improve your english skills, as well as your typing, as it seems your '1337' is quite upto-date. May I also recommend you talk to someone about these obsession's with sex, gays, hardcore and geography, as they may be interconnected in some way we cannot see yet (or do not wish to see).

*= There s a reason we have the word 'Durex' in the english language now, I subjest you talk to your parents about them, and how there ment to be used.

Also, perhaps this resource you help you on your further endevours, I have already put a word search into it to help you get started. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=crevice

Enjoy.

Yeah, and it works so well when making a point.

On the topic:

Well, surely it affect the grades of young people, im a student myself and have since I started hardcore gaming (caple connection :p) my grades have dropped quite a bit (1-2 steps)

Well, you cant blame computer games, as some try to do, the only thing you can blame if your grades fall, is yourself, really, that simple, because if you want to, you can always just say "no" and do your homework, instead of another ToA raid of whatever.

Abit off-topic: Just heard a result from a contra-research on the danish radio today, as at the moment, there is (atleast in Denmark) alot of reports and research about how "stupid" the kids of today have become and they make statics about "only 31% of the teens today know the royal heir order" and such, and some University students got tired of hearing about how stupid they and their generation was, so they made research and made some adults take some tests and answer some questions, before giving them the results.

It showed that the people who was mostly concerned about how "stupid" young people was and "how little basic knowledge they knew" was also the dumbest adults AND the adults was in general worse at answering the questions correctly then the young generation...

Double morals, anyone?

Blinky: 'Step-dad’ can be spelt in a number of different ways, for example you can spell it like Stepdad, or Step Dad. It is just a matter of regional dialect.

It would appear that Chilly was typing in the restricted speech code, which would normally be used by the Working classes. This is also used by the Middle and Upper classes when talking informally or to friends and family, like on a message board. He was using slang and colloquial terms to put across his point, and does not need you belittling him to make yourself look better.

Found this:

“Rule 2: The proper name, the name of a specific person or thing, begins with a capital letter. All other important words in the name must also start with a capital letter. Words that do not need to be written with a capital letter unless they are the first word of the name are a, an, and, the, of, to, by, etc. (Following each proper name are one or more common names of the same type of person or thing which do not need a capital letter.)”

har har Daily Mail... pfft top quality rag that is lol.

just to discredit that article.. i started playin when i was 9 or 10... been playing 8hrs a day since... i passed all my GSCE's with "A" grades.. same for my A Levels and i got an honours in my English Degree at university... silly sods are trying to generalise when you simply cant do that... thats like saying.. all people who live in council flats will work for Tesco's... sure some will... but the other 99% will go on to work for a multitude of other companies... just because some kids fail theyre exams AND play games surely means its the games fault... (wow such brilliant journalism there)

If you are going to insult someone on their use of spelling and grammar then I must insist that you attain a higher level of grammar yourself. Allow me to continue:

DAoC Did shit

Improper capitalization of "did". I also fail to see how DAoC can "do" shit. If you are using "do" in this sentence to imply that DAoC had sex with excrement then I fail to see the relevance.

Binky the Bomb said:

I assume you meant that "esle" is else, yes? Well I will let this one slide, as it was most likely a typo on your part. Proof read your post.

Binky the Bomb said:
someting with an office

Another typo. "Someting" should be "Something" Re-read your post at least twice before pressing that little "Submit Reply" button.

Well at this point your grammar totally degenerates. I can only assume that for some reason you had to rush this last part. I believe this because up to this point, your grammar was nearly impeccable.

"There s" should be written as so "There's"
The first comma should be replaced by a full stop. This sentence is too long and doesn't flow.
"Subjest" was supposed to be written as "Suggest" I assume.
"There" is incorrect. You should have used "They're" or "They are"
"Ment" should be written as "Meant"

Also, perhaps this resource you help you on your further endeavors
This should be written like so:
"Also, perhaps this resource would help you on your further endeavors"

You found it necessary to omit the word "Would" and add in an extra "You". While I know that this is the "hip" thing to do nowadays, it just doesn't cut it on an Internet forum.

"Endeavors" is spelt "Endeavors"

Even though i am a perfect individual I would be willing to place money on the fact that I have made several errors in this post.

Note: I agree with your point. However this is after all only an Internet forum, so perfect grammar is not a prerequisite to posting here. Chillys' post does indeed have several glaring errors, but i have seen worse. He is not totally raping the english language by integrating numbers into words for example. Also I believe that colloquial phrases are accepted, ie: "the subject they gave him was gay"

In general many of the mistakes in his post were simple typos. So no need to be pedantic.

Outstanding watson! Although you didnt want to totally embarrass poor binky you certainly did make you point in a suave sophisticated way, while maintaing style and great grammar. All from a fellow Irish man I might add.

Jolly good old chap :D!

To the point though, binky's point is correct. You can only blaim one person for failing in life, whether thats career wise or academically, because of a computer gaming obsession. Your self. I think if everybody was honest there are things that you missed out on in the course of when you first started this game till present day because of the game, it could have been something social or professional but most honest people would admit that.

have to disagree with you about the parents part because now adays kids dont listen to there parents and do as they wish and most kids get a pc for xmas or b'days and have them in there room so parents dont know any way i'm still at school yet i play daoc as much as i like my parents dont have a say in it as its my choice not theres. :(

I dont think kids are as impressionable than before. They still have parents nd know the difference between good and bad. The guy who wrote this probably grew up in the 60's or 70's and was exposed to the explosion in recriational drug use and the effect it had on society (the "free love craze") :p. Thats probably a bit more dangerious than computer games.
the work i have done with 3rd graders sadly says something very very different than that, parents in general take their childs side of the story, no matter how completely impossible, disturbing and wanky a kid may be, it's never the child nor the parents fault they say :(
all things in overflowing amounts are dangerous, yes Vitamin C en masse is dangerous as well

eating lots of carrots with lots of Vitamin A is dangerous too, because Vitamin A dissolves in lipids (fats) meaning they stay in your body for much longer!

a nice educational fact :)

so i guess some orange things are still dangerous :D

oh and i agree COMPLETELY that parents arent as harsh as they should be (for example my parents were MUCH harsher on me than to my little brother, who gets away with murder :p )

and kids seem to be mostly annoying twats who then grow to be even more annoying (but hairy) twats

Indeed, feel the same. Over the past 2 years (since i started spending lots of time in front of my comp) i have developed some serious attention span issues - i used to be able to spend hours on books and writing stuff etc, and these days i just cant, its like i drift away and get blocked after just a short time :(

Oh I think i understand your post perfectly though. Although it was so full of sarcasm it is kind of hard to find "The Funny" at times.

Anyway back to the main point on the thread. People who blame computers for their low grades in school are just looking for a reason to not try harder. If they can accept that it is the computers that are causing them to work less in school then why don't they just cut back? It's not hard really. It's not like people can form a physical addiction to their computers like you can with say, Heroin (That is unless you like to get "Hot and Heavy" with your computer or something).

So stop moaning about how you used to do better in school and just accept that there is no going back for you now! This is the beginning of a downward spiral for you, which will sadly end with you ODing on your daily dose of "PC".
