Composing

I acquired some new toys (midi interface, software, etc) over the last few weeks and have been busy making music. Jean Michel Jarre type stuff.

Anyone else here experimented doing this? I'm quite enjoying it, although I'm finding it difficult to think of anything original.

I'll post up some stuff when I'm happy it doesn't sound completely shite

If the strings end abruptly instead of fading to silence its something to do with proxies and not updating my webspace quickly. Or something. It replaces a file I uploaded last night that has the same name.

I think it sounds pretty good Tom, I know I don't qualify as a critic in any way, shape or form, but I particularly like the second part of the track and think you should well be able to flesh that out and give it some body and I'll enjoy it even more

Not trying to sound condescending but are you familiar with your musical theory? Scales, modes and all that shizz?

I remember starting out on guitar and what not and being completely stuck as far as making stuff up goes, after learning the theory I get melodies and all sorts popping into my head in an appropriate key, it's good fun.

Pretty much, I'm self-taught on the piano and have a very good memory when it comes to remembering chord structures and the like.

Sounds like a tune i knocked up 5 yr ago only mine was dancey/trancey/techno stylie (and 100+bpm more ), using the fac chords, Arpeggio is your friend.

Anywho's you should consider looking at Reason 3 by propellerheads for some serious end results.

And clicking the link myself, seems 4 is on the way, I have a mate with a 3k basic studio who cried when he tried Reason and realised it does the same + more.

I was a big fan of Jarre and attended the Destination Docklands concert, I was talking about this with someone the other day and realised it was nearly 20 years ago ! [/feels very old]

Xane I was at Destination Docklands also. I still have my tickets and original programme I have some very fond memories of that day, I was 16 at the time and travelled down by coach with some schoolmates.

Ah see i was right , it's the 96k bitrate mp3 file that removes all the love and warmth. But it has potential mate


Wasnt fruity loops just some drum looping proggy (aka Recycle) when Reason was released. Oh well, nothing like healthy competition.

Nice work mate, love the synths especially. I've tried a similar thing on a Drum n Bass track of my own, but as I don't have a MIDI keyboard the melodies are much simpler.

Just needs a beat now

Seeing as we have this concentration of composers can one of you do a better ending for Mozart's 'Lacrimosa dies illa' from Requiem?

He only wrote the first 8 bars and then died and another composer filled in the rest (though part of that is a reprise of the first bit Mozart wrote).

I adore the first part but the ending of that track is a real let down - go wild
