was that the real madrid game where simeone scored the back heel flick and keane got an own goal or the one where robby carlos said it was joker easy to mark becks and becks went on to score an absolute screamer?

sheva looks like a payday guy more than a footballer, hes not doing himself justice in the slightest but he just doesnt look arsed

veron simply couldnt hack it

unless iv lost my mind, i dont remember much good from veron and been a fairly hardcore united fan for last 15yrs- use to watch him and think "FOR GODSAKES MAN PLAY LIKE I KNOW YOU CAN PLAY"- was just the odd euro game where he'd play a bit of delightful footy thatd lead to something, but he was never truly dominated, apart from that greek game in the grp stages

you cant really be saying you watched him @united and the old ultra violence never came to mind?

It was the Roberto Carlos game where we made them look like mugs in the second leg but just couldn't get that extra goal we needed. One of the most tense nights at Old Trafford ever, we had so many chances to kill them off.

Back to Seba. That season I saw 9 home games and 6 away, he played badly in 3 of those games if I remember correctly including totally going missing in the 3-1 defeat against Middlesboro which was the game that probably sealed his fate as far as Fergie was concerned. All in all I would say that he had 6 bad games from us that season and another 6 that were far from convincing. Arsenal pushed us hard for the title that year and Fergie knew he needed to cash to improve the squad so he decided to offload him because he knew that Seba was not the long term replacement for Roy Keane, he also knew than Raneri was a big fan of Seba's and was willing to pay £4 million more than any club in Italy.

Since he has left the media have slaughtered the guy and trashed his history with United. Personally I remember him fondly, he was brilliant for us in Europe and if only he could have transferred that form to the league for us he would have gone down as a United great. That shows how fine a line it is between sucess and failure at a club like United, he was far from being a bad player but he just wasn't suited to style and pace of our league.

media slaughtered him before he left, those wandering stories made him out to be a bit of a head case

was he ever touted as a keane replacement?only 2 years age gap isnt there?

still not accepting him as anywhere near useful to united, if a players "going wandering" at man u, well he shouldnt be there as like you say, big expectations and every game is huge

hes not a bad player, hes just not 30mills worth of player. probably did better than some of the other flops of our times, kleberson and miller didnt exactly shine o so bright, but then they cost a fraction of what he did.

it was just a case of not adapting to the league- but it was still a major flop from a monetry pov

anyways nice discussion, night

Man Utd never care about that cup. They do this every year and i suppose it's to keep the main squad rested.

The Premiership was to fast for Veron, quite simply he needed the time on the ball to play his style of football. Watched him in italy and in internationals and he is world class.

Personally I will never forget the way he played when we came back against Spurs. In all we got a good deal selling him on, he scored goals in the champions league which to me showed his class.

Don't feel bad, 90% of football fans have been blinded by it as well. Alan Hansen and Shearer slag him off regularly so the press buy into it overlooking the fact that both of them hate Man U with a passion.

Some second string teams can win pointless games others can't! ;)

Seriously though this is nothing to worry about for Utd being out of the cup is prolly a good thing.

The way Terry was talking about beating HULL 4-0 in a cup where they played a near full team made me laugh alot more that Man U losing. But i have just come to see this as a cup to play fringe young players not get excited about beating Hull ;)

Aye Chelsea made me laugh, I bet the half time team talk was fun cause Hull were causing Terry all sorts of problems.

Can you blame them for wanting to put out a strong team given the last 3 games and week at the club?

No I cant actually, however the first half performance was an absolute disgrace, I fail to see where this super attacking style of football is going to come from. Chelsea used give a lot of cover to the defenders with midfielders playing a defensive role. Take these players away and Chelsea's defence is far more likely to leak goals. I really dont rate JT, I feel he makes a lot of mistakes on crosses. He does have fantastic leadership skills though and I can see why he is the captain. I prefer Carvalho hands down, he is a much better football player.

Not at all it was just the way Terry was talking like they had just beat Man U not Hull in the Carling Cup made me laugh
