Anyone else find these bloody annoying ?

I'm trying to watch Musical Genius (Channel 5, UK terrestrial TV 9-10pm) and there must have been 5 commercial breaks so far

AARRGG !! I just wanna watch my programmes with no beeping breaks for stupid ads !!

The odd 1 or 2 for a wee / tea break, but 5 ? Come on !!

They're going to get worse some time soon, they've been considering to do it during cinema films too... Hope they won't though.

American standard is an advert for every 6.5 minutes of programing however they do shift it around about a bit to suit the program but you do get 8 commercial breaks an hour on most basic networks. I spent 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic a few years back and the only TV was the basic U.S. networks which drove me fucking nuts, suffice to say if I ever goto America I won't be bothering with the TV unless they have pay porn channels in the hotel room. :D

Seriously, if they do that, they can't keep wondering why people don't go to cinemas as much as they used too...

Not that I want to promote it, but if they start making commercial breaks in movies in cinemas, I bet they will have even more problems with piracy...

and that is because most americans have an ultra small attention span. and if you watch soaps you will notice most scenes are only about 60 seconds at the most. just to keep the attention. god forbid you could sit there and not get bored after 1 whole minute :)

sky+

set eveything that you want to watch to record then start watching the recording 15 minutes after the start time (for an hour long program) you can then fast fwd through all the annoying ad breaks.

Also the films on the sky movies channels don't have ad breaks

More commercial breaks would result in more viewers being pissed off.

The TiVo is quite popular in US households, but it's something which hasn't caught on in the UK. Considering the amount of adverts they have to put up with I'm not suprised they need special video recorders to record everything and skip the adverts.

If you try to force more adverts onto viewers then they'll try and avoid them at all cost instead of watching a few whilst waiting for the next part of the programme.

I don't think I would be too bothered if they were good things to watch, enjoyable. There are some funny and entertaining commercials, but 90% of all advertisement breaks are either accident/injury claims or debt consolidation.

Sometimes you really need a commercial break. Unless ofc you keep an empty soda bottle nearby and piss in that when you need to go

Yes the English drink a lot of tea, Americans (if HomerSimpson is anything to go by) drink a lot of beer

Its getting to the point where they'll need to interrupt commercial breaks for more commercials !

Now if they had naked women getting their boobies out on the commercial breaks, I'd be a lot happier ( . Y . ) yay !

UK Gold is awful for breaks, theyve actually managed to take programs that were originally in 30 min slots like Buzzcocks etc, and turn them into 40 mins :|

They do not make commercial breaks often because Americans have short attention spans, I can assure you that.
They make commercial breaks, because that is the way they get their money. The more viewers = The easier to get good deals from people that want to broadcast commercials on your channel. They pay per commercial (or on how often they show commercials during their shows, and when the commercials are shown, more money if they make breaks IN the shows, as people will be more inclined to watch the commercials, than between shows.)
This means the more commercial breaks they make, the more money they get. And in the States they just have to take everything to the extremes :p
