As deadman says, definately quieter (obviously), which if your firing from half way across a map can be advantageous as the enemy doesn't instantly know where the hits are coming from.

Damage is slightly reduced too, but the accuracy thing is contentious, I've never noticed a difference

It does a little less damage, its more accurate when bursting, less accurate when spraying.

I prefer silencer on if i'm creeping about, silencer off if i'm in a straight defensive position waiting for the enemy.

The scilencer in real life is more accurate (due to a longer barrel) but has less power/range. but the only weap in cs that you can say bullet goes there is the awm.

burts fire is alway more accurate than full auto.

But the bigest thing that should be fixed with cs is running i would like to have a run bar only used for running for cover. Oh the second biggest thing that should be fixed from day one is the armour give the played 75hp then armour brings it up to 100. This way works better as armour takes no damage. eg i had full armour and helm, i was shot at and taken down to 13hp with 100 armour. i asked the fella what was he aiming for he said chesat and head.

biggest bug in cs is the knife cheat. equip knife and you can run faster. you have still have the other guns on your person so why can you run faster. and didnt your mother tell you not to run with sharp objects.

I've found the m4 to be less accurate without the silencer (but perhaps that's just me?) and to do less damage. Basically you hit someone in the body who's wearing kevlar and he takes upto 5 good hits with the silencer. Without the silencer it only takes 4.

Of course this is discounting the fact you did not get a HS with one of those shots and all hit the main hit box on his chest / stomach area.

In CS the silencer is good from a concealed position but it does not reduce muzzle flash, merely the noise of the weapon. Hence, your target will pick you up if you give him enough time to react. Against multiple peeps therefore it's pretty useless unless you pick off targets who cannot see you depending on the line of sight of their comrades...

Example 1): You shoot one guy in front of the his mates with the silencer. Though you kill him he manages to turn round before dying and point at your location. If his mates are any good they've notice his last movement and look toward the danger - i.e. YOU. You then die horribly. They didn't hear you but they can see you. However, if you take out the guy that at the back then no-one knows he's gone as no-one was looking, and let's face it... the average schmuck doesn't keep track of blips disappearing from their radar or announcements of who died on the screen (apart from freaks like me ). With this done you can then proceed to kill everyone silently.

Example 2): This tactic also works if you target the lead guy but only I find if there is a lot of noise already - i.e. a fire-fight, or nades going off. Because they can only hear the sound of gunfire - and not yours - and presumably they are being hit from a different direction from one of your teamies they won't realise the real cause of their friend's death if your silenced m4....

I only ever use the m4 when I'm last man standing on a public but in a clan war never. IMO (God I hate using that abbreviation!) the extra shot it takes to kill someone from 100 health is a handicap that would get you killed against someone of average skill. Quicker the kill = more chance your own head doesn't fall off. Plus in a clan war I find it very odd when people don't check corners, etc., and hence LET you hide with your silenced gun.

However, there is a strange thing about the silencer m4. When you rush with it silenced it always seems more accurate on the move (running) and ALWAYS seems to get those wonderful HS where blood flies everywhere from your target. Spray and pray babeh!!!!

wouldn't it be easier to run with your rifle slung over your back with a knife in your hand? Then again, can't see why running with a knife should be easier that running with a pistol. It should be that you could run faster if you dropped stuff; like when you're out of ammo you could throw away your rifle to make movement easier. Of course you would have less to carry when you throw grenades too... If you could dump everything, including kevlar and your shirt, it would be nice to be able to jump on people from a hieght and crapple with enemies; rolling around on the floor, ringing their neck or killing them with one of their own weapons. Possibly even using them as a human shield... I'll stop before I go too far... oh...

Silencer on is also useful if your trying to shoot someone through a wall. Its easier to tell whether or not your hiting them from the noise made.

Oh, and if you wanna be fussy about the different speeds, look at it this way. You cant run full pelt with a gun out, and aim it with any degree of accuracy, at the same. A knife you can quite happily sprint with because all your going to do is thrust it forward to make contact.

Since I moved darn sarf me damn net connection just hasn't been right. Pings been all over the place. Anyroad, I eventually got pissed off with its inconsistency enough to phone NTL this evening, turns out theres a problem with the up stream connection for CMs in this area that they werent aware of. Apparently they've now got it logged as a problem and hopefully my it should be sorted within the week. I may be able to magically appear out of semi retirement - ph34r!

As far as I'm aware I'm currently unclanned and available - let the pimpage commence!
PS: I'm very partial to cookies and anything that involves custard.

I never ever use the silencer, havent in ages, but I tried it again after this thread, and I would agree with the above quote. On really excellent servers, like our KEA one, rushing into 2 or three people with a silenced M4 does appear to get much better results than unsilenced.
The rest of the time I reckon 4 hits to kill instead of 5 = win

I go through phases, silencer off then on. I mistakenly think that it improves my game play at certain times.

All I know is that its definetly more accurate at long ranges for me. Its less powerful, but only marginally. The advantage off less noise is great for sneaking around -especially for sneaking in as a Ct on assualt and picking peeps off or going auto to get easy headshots.

Shame that the silencer is always on graphically when other players see you with a colt. They really should have fixed that by now.

I'll be home in a week guys, so see you on the servers soon. Assuming my pc still works, my sister has been using it exclusively for 6 months.
