VLC opens most types of video file.

If VLC doesn't open it (it probably will) - get Mediainfo, open the file in it and it'll tell you everything about the video, like what encoders were used for video/audio etc.

VLC did the trick, but only on the PC. I still can't stream it to the PS4?

It looks like the PS4 Media Player has pretty limited support. It covers all the mainstream codecs but if you have something weird it'll shit the bed.

Just use Handbrake to covert it to something the PS4 can read.
