Coach trips

Anyone been on any of these cheap coach trips to the continent? For years I have wanted to do some travelling but free roaming isn't really my thing, backpacking is great but I am getting a bit old for that so a fixed duration coach trip seems like a good compromise. I can see countries I have never been to before and although I won't be getting the full experience of these places it will give me enough insight as to wether I would like to go back there on my own one day. For my first little adventure I was considering a 5 day trip to the Rhine Valley or another 5 day trip that takes in the Netherlands and Belgium, the prices are excellent and I am not bothered if the accomodation is basic as long as it is clean.

So, I am looking for some feedback, information or any input at all really. I did consider a Eurail pass but christ they are expensive when you consider £400 for 10 days and I would feel really rushed to see as much as possible udring those 10 days rather than being able to explore at my leisure.

Coaches usually full of pensioners. Take the train and do a proper euro tour. Altrhough I'm not sure I'd stay in any Eastern European Hostels anymore

yeah best to do the great train journeys than the coach. I know some friends who backpacked accross europe by train and they loved it

I would love to do it by train but we are talking £400 for a 10 day pass and then I have to factor in accomodation and food for those 10 days we are talking £1000 for a 10 day holiday of which 2-3 days would be spent sat on a train. I just can't justify that, not when I can get 5 days in the Rhine Valley for £129 half board. Or 5 days in Ostend for £99 from where I can easily travel to the Netherlands and France for a day or two. If the Eurail passes were £400 for 21 days I would quite happily do it but I will be damned if I am paying £1000 for what is effectively a 7 day holiday.

As for pensioners on coaches, rather them that a bunch of chavs and drunks. The coach part is only the travel to the destination, after that I have 4 full days to do my own thing which should be enough to decide if I want to go back there again.

but seriously, its almost as cheap to just fly around if you go off peak and on cheapo flights, european flights last what, 2hrs max, that gives alot more time to do stuff, and thats really the whole point of things, might even be worth checking what euro trips are on offer from flying pplz, thompson fly seemed the cheapest when i last checked, we got amsterdam trip for 40quid each way, im sure you could plan out something that took you to maybe 5-6 diff countries for about 240-260quid and then you could do it properly, buses are a right annoyer, id steer clear of them m8

Yep, I would use the coaches for northern France, Belgium, Netherland and Western Germany. Any further than that and I would use cheap flights.

Don't forget that with these cheap coach trips you get accomodation, breakfast and an evening meal included in that price, knowing you are getting 5 days away for just over £100 really offsets the long coach ride.

I really want to do a American driving holiday Pick up a Mustang in New York and Drop it off in LA going via Vegas. I am saving for this now need to talk a mate into going as well so i can pull the sore knee excuse for not driving the whole time
