geeks and geekettes, I've been using a CMS thing for a blog called Movable Type for about a thousand years and of late I have become unhappy with it. In SAS's thread about guides there was talk about Wordpress, and there was a link to site that had several dozen skins for it.

Anyone able to advise me in a choice between the two. Ideally it would have to run on a LAMP. MT uses perl, which is totally fine though. I just want integration with a gallery(2) type thing really.

oh yeah and while I can both read and write perl and PHP when sufficiently pressed, I am also lazy so someone elses work is near always preferred

Works perfectly fine on LAMP (and funnily enough, WAMP as well) and is somewhat easier to setup than MT.
Theres also a Gallery2 Embedded plugin (oh yes, wordpress does plugins like the always nifty akismet anti-spam comments plugin)
depending on how your gallery2 is implemented will dictate how functional the plugin it is, mine runs off a sub-domain and it doesn't like it one bit when it does all the fancy mod_rewrite stuff

Thats where the plugins and themes are the saving grace to wordpress, you can personalise it extremely easily (and i believe the next version of wordpress will come with auto-update functionality!)
the plugins can be upgraded live from inside the admin function and themes are dead easy to install (unzip into its seperate folder under themes, go into the admin section and it's there ready to go)

theres also a "blog by email" function, but i've yet to really try that
