ok the point is that i want more out of my 2.4 ghz P4.
i have the original coooler that was inc.

how high can i go and what kind of cooling im going to need to runn it at normal temps.

clocking is the only option for me right now couse i bought Ati Radeon X800PRO (Sapphire version). it has 256 ddr3 :flame: i bought it couse my 9800pro burned like hell. Tho it wasnt my foult!!!!!!

Problem is that i cant get max performance out of my gfx if i dont go 3ghz or at least near that.

i have 768 ddr atm.

NB! i can run 2 acc at 46-47 degrees celsius atm. and can someone give me some pointers how to overclock and what prog to use, couse i have never done this before.

As high as it goes before reaching 55C :)

Only 1 way to OC a P4, raise the FSB. Then just do some testing to see if its stable, if it aint stable try raising CPU voltage. That's a short explanation :p

Mine runs at 3300Mhz atm, 220Mhz FSB. (3000Mhz, 200Mhz default)

If the PC doesnt boot you'll have to reset your BIOS. (also called CMOS reset)

i have a Asus P4S8X SiS648 motherboard.

I allso checked the asus homepage but the jumpers section under my mb was under construction tho it is the first asus mb to have a 8x agp slot (old mb)

Can enyone help me here?

I thought overclocking was kinda retro-cute 5 years ago. Is a 100 MHz boost really worth the hassle? Get a new CPU for like 200 Euros, plug it in and go.

ROFL.

I actually did some overclocking and got a 30% real-time performance increase. For the same default performance i would have had to pay 400 € more.

So... 30% increase. And?

I`m not trying to stop you. I just say it´s not worth the hassle. And 400 Euros more? The fastest Intel CPU I can get from my local hardware store is a 3,6 GHz. It goes for 366 Euros. The second best, 3,4 goes for 200. *shrug*

It´s a fact that some games aren´t running on overclocked machines. Our last game definitely doesn´t and we don´t give support to people who´re overclocking. That´s something you should keep in mind.

That's only true if the system is unstable.

Overlocking a cpu has no risk at all if the person knows their stuff and keeps the temps low aswell as the voltages, paying a for a decent cooler(usually £25-30) is a lot more cheaper than £100 more. For example a sempron 3100 cpu can hit the equivalent of an athlon 64 3400 or a p4 3.4ghz if overclocked a lot, so what if it lives 1-2 years left it will still outlive the time you going to use it providing you know what you are doing.

And? I paid 400 euro's less than someone else and got the same performance.

I would've had to pay 400 euro's more if i wanted a 3.4ghz instead of 3.0ghz and a X800 XT PE instead of a X800 Pro.

Games don't run on overclocked machine only if the machine isn't stable. And you have to be incredibly stupid to run an unstable system. I bet your "last game" would run perfect on my system because it's perfectly stable and I haven't had problems with any game so far.

And support to people who are overclocking.... AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Have overclocked for as long as I can remember, the point is for me its fun and lengthens the time before the obligatory upgrade/rebuild allowing me to save even more money due to prices falling in that extra time I gained.

To the point about some games not working with overclocked systems, I really cant see that being true havnt ever come across a game that wont play on an overclocked fully stable system and its fairly comon practice if you have a problem with a specific app or game to set everything back to default to eliminate the possability of it being your OC

To original poster I learnt pretty much everything about overclocking from reading various forums the main one being www.overclockers.co.uk some great people there and mostly willing to help without flaming :p cant offer any advice to you as ive never built/overclocked/tinkered with an intel system ever AMD all the way :D
