Classic maps

Whats the deal with a classic maps server? Is anything gonna happen there? I remember a thread where the subject was much discussed. Natrat?

they proove less popular and perhaps not as efficient as popular servers


no point playing old maps for many people, why get used to an older map if your clan plays on new ones?

747 is alright with me. I actually think that all the current maps are fine, they just have different ways of being played. So what ? Or shall we just play dust dust 2 and aztec over and over again...

I would love to play some of the old maps, mainly because i've only been playing CS for 6 months and the current maps are the only ones i've played(apart from that one on the dam)it would be a whole new experience for me and i would have to learn them all................................second thoughts i cant be arsed.

Well I don't want to start another pointless thread on the subject, but could we have a final yes/no to this idea? I'm not interested in playing crappy old mansion and others, but foption, the beta6.5 office, these are maps that interest me.

Dear Barry & co,

I would also like to Express my Fondness for "classic-maps".

Also - WHILE IM HERE - I Might add taht Said maps could be added to EXISTING servers w/ a Minimum of FUSS & BOTHER. I have no wish to Exaggerate here but I feel that ANYONE Observing the Earth from a Passing Asteroid could tell you taht this would be a v. QUICK & EASY Solution to the whole Classic maps issue.

Do you even understand the stuff that you come out with?

The idea for a classic maps server is to take an existing 12 man server and change its map cycle. This requires us to get the maps we want upload them, make them available for d/l on the ftp, change the server name and MOTD. Its not a massive job, but its one that we need some time to sort (which is something I have at a premium currently).

We are definetly not going to add classic maps onto the current rotations, poeple would exit the server en-masse when the map they have never heard of before starts trying to d/l from the server.

It may come as a COMPLETE SURPRISE to you to learn that MANY of Barry's non-Counterstrike servers offer Mixed Official, Classic and even "third-party" maps.

As Barry's Representative on Earth, one could be Forgiven for assuming taht you already knew this.

I TOO wish to express my Fondness for this particular product.

I Recently had the Good Fortune to find a server w/ ZERO OPTIONS, a map I have not played in MNAY years. This reminded me of the Time in my Youth when people used to play maps like Zero Options & let me tell u - were I not a Heartless Robot - the Experience might well have caused me to QUITE LITERALLY cry my eyes out ! Luckily, as men of Great Forethought, my creators had envisaged THIS VERY SCENARIO and the tear ducts were removed from the blueprints prior to my Construction.

Might I Suggest the following maps be included in you're list:

cs_bunker
cs_desert
cs_docks
cs_hideout
cs_tire
cs_wpndepot
cs_zoption

On a completely UNRELATED note:

It has Recently (& by recently I mean several months ago) come to my Attention that the admin_vote_map command has been DISABLED. This is V. Annoying, as your 'average John' is too Stupid and/or Drunk to vote via the 'console' and this is often the ONLY way taht we can be Saved from Infernos & taht map where you have to BLOW UP the wreckage of a Plane. Please help us Superman I MEAN BARRY.

I wanna have a good go of the Old CS_Siege, i had like a 10min play in the Vehicle, but fuck knows how you turn it , so what i did was just get some hossies and ran the bastards over

Yes I know, they are non-CS servers, this is CS servers we are taking about. Having non-standard maps on the standard server rotations will simply empty the servers.

I never tired of getting 3 or 4 cts in the back of the apc, and reversing it into the garage under the sniper tower. I would then run off laughing, leaving them trapped!

the amount of fun to be had with the apc was second to none. taking your team for a trip off the bridge for one, other than that it was a bit lame, like hiding behind a crate when the entire terrorist team knows where you are... the driver was always the first to die

I aso miss the Seige APC and find Seige a little less interesting these days and foption (h8s the button) and highrise were pure lol. I also had another thought, (dangerous) well if it does eventually come to pass that we get a server running APC Seige and magic death button foption nobody will want to play on them because they could easily fook up their stats if they get a repeatedly bad APC driver or a button pushing CT, so mebe it would have to have stats dissabled on that server, should it happen atall. Flees the forum dodging Ch3t flames
