This attitude is getting old now really. I'm fairly sure we didn't start out only playing for one title did we. We didn't play well enough in the league so concentrated on the one we actually had a chance in, same as any sane person would.
Or did you see the best Chelsea/ManU 11 playing in the first round of the league cup?

Erm, Liverpool fucked up early in the season as he refused to consistantly play Torres, wasnt till later on that he seemed to pick him every game and that is when Torres began to shine. If he kept the strongest 11 out for the league then they would have had a good chance, the backup players are just not up to the required standard yet as was shown against the likes of Birmingham.

Benetiz will never win the league till he either buys in better squad players or he simply plays his strongest team when he can, however that dont seem to be likely anytime soon.

Benitez to get the sack or leave after the last 2 games?

Grant may have cemented his job for next year given the outcome of tonight.

I haven't always agreed with what he's done but he's stuck at it and glared the critics right in the face and done what Mourinho never could do. Massive credit to him.

Was always going to be mightely close. Think it was just Chelsea's time to beat us, they've had enough goes at it :p. Slightely hard to take that but for a 95th minute own goal we would be through. All this talk about "Justice has been done" I dont really understand. Liverpool have wronged the other big English teams by being more successful than them in Europe recently? Please stop talking about Liverpool only competing for one trophy a season. Of course we try to win everything, but when it comes down to the end with an inferior squad we are always going to prioritise what we can win. Would be retarded to play our best players against Fulham and Birmingham when there is no possible chance of winning the league.

The justice for me was getting the penalty after Essiens goal was so stupidly disallowed.

Liverpool fans seem blind to it but Rafa did not pick his best side for the first 3 months of the season, the league is not his priority and it has cost Liverpool again.

Erm, Liverpool fucked up early in the season as he refused to consistantly play Torres, wasnt till later on that he seemed to pick him every game and that is when Torres began to shine.

Every pundit i've seen this season has appeared to indicate that it normally takes a foreign player a year to adapt to life in the premiership. Yes playing him every game might of resulted in a better season, or it might of resulted in him becoming tired and jaded half way through the season as he failed to keep up with the pace. Given you didn't attend the training sessions or have all the inside knowledge, i'm not sure how everyone here appears to know exactly what would of happened.

Recently Liverpool, other than the last few games when we've been out of it anyway have rotated far less than either United or Chelsea. Yeah we need better squad players, but I could level the same whine at Arsenal. Either you start with a better squad like United did and spend silly money to improve it, or you spend really silly money like Chelsea did.
A better squad doesn't just pop out of nothing you know.

That would be the goal where Drogba was stood in front of the keeper when it was hit. Every pundit admitted it had to be offside.

Given apparently babel was offside in the first leg I fail to see how having 5 (that's half the team) in an offside position can really be a stupid offside.
That said the rules crap and needs changing so we stop going round and round in circles.

i agree but i dont he was prioritising becuase after he already fucked it he played best 11 week in week out and got 4th quite comfatably!

if he done that from the start we'd still be in with a shout on the prem i mean its still only 11 points which is like 4 games that we could have won v like birmingham (two draws) middlesboro reading ect stupid teams to drop points against

tho you could say he was sucuring CL footie to do the same next season ^^

any way

well palyed chelsea

was contraversial riise O.G 95th min ect ect but have to say over the 2 legs you did deseve it, where were the nil nil's i was promised tho? my poor heart

I am not getting ahead of myself with regards to United, we need to improve over the next 3 games or we will end up potless as well.

I think after 180 mins we deserved to go through, but in the same way Arsenal did we didn't take our chances at home. In the last 30 mins Chelsea deserved it. :(

disagree, first leg we dominated then well you know the rest, second leg chelsea dominated and we had 1 good 20 mins spell at start of 2nd half, extra time was jsut a messy shammbles but entertaining non the less

rather lose 3-2 in extra time then 0-0 on away goal anyday

anyway now we can say how we clearly would have cained united but dont have the chance now

This season yeah, the last 3 we've won a few things..

I just find Soze's ability to not get over one descision highly hilarious. :drink:

We went out in pretty much exactly the same way Arsenal did. Played better over most of the leg but didn't take our chances and lost it in the last minutes. Yet the liverpool fans here can at least congratulate Chelsea. A month on and he's still blathering on about his penalty.

If it was a boxing match i'd of given both home legs to Liverpool, the first half tonight to Chelsea and the second half to Liverpool.

We got hit with a nasty right hand in the 5th tho and crumbled.

Reina - his field of view wasn't impeded.

Like i said this is just what i've heard from andy gray as they only showed the replay once on ESPN.

Shot went in the top corner, to the right of Reina. Drogba was stood right in Reina's face and another 3 Chelsea players were also offside in the 6 yard box. If he'd of got to the shot was debatable anyway I guess but... well actually who knows what the rules say!

I think by the letter of the law it was probably offside, although it's a complete lottery with the rules as they are these days. We should probably of had a penalty, so at the worst it's all square anyway.

Nothing last season though either bud, two years in a row you have under-achieved. You have the players to compete and win but your manager only considers the Champions League and everything else is a distraction.

I'm fairly sure that at the beginning of both the last 2 seasons any Liverpool fan who said we were going to win the premiership was laughed aside by you, so i'm not sure underacheived is really accurate. We've done pretty much what everyone not being biased would probably of expected. The only thing we've probably underachieved on is getting 4th not 3rd this year, but I think that's probably Arsenal over achieving rather than us underachieving.

You said a second ago that we didn't have a squad good enough to win the premiership, and now claim we have the players to compete and win.. Want to make your mind up?

Ok as long as your sorry i'll beleive you.
Vlad the commentary i was listening to said it was offside as Drogba was standing infront of Reina and therefore intefering with play. Offside rule is a joke and you can question every single one where a player is deemed to be "intefering with play".
Chodax: For the first 3 months? Benetiz rotated as he saw fit, as does every manager. Torres was new to English football, if Benetiz threw him in at the deep end and played him every game he might not have scored so many goals in the League. We dont have the squad at our disposal that you and Chelsea do, untill we do we are never going to compete on as many fronts.

I guess you could look at Arsenal and say they have a similar sized squad and didn't rotate as much. At the end of the season they simply ran out of steam, and ended up in pretty much the same situation as us. They rested players against Liverpool in the premiership match and it put them out of the race.. I guess they only went for one cup as well?
