Hmm, I dunno. I liked Alpha Centauri but I don't have days and days spare any more like when I wasted an entire month getting good enough to do Civ on Emporer level by 1900.

If I remember rightly I only had one enemy city left by about 1400 which I completely surrounded and then had the whole map littered with my cities by 1600.

I once left it to see how many Future Techs I could get too. i think it was round about 100 but I could be wrong.

never bothered with civ 2 cos C&C and Warcraft 2 were out
