Civilization 4 only loads small maps

I just installed Civ 4 and patched it to 1.61 and tried to play. No matter what settings it set it to it seems to only load a small/tiny map though (i.e. i have it set at the largest map size and still get a tiny tiny map when the game starts). Anyone else had this? Dont see anything about it on the Firaxis homepage.

Nwm me im stupid - turns out the minimap scales ******ds as you find new land. I though it was showing the entier landmass from the start when it is really zoomed in on the land you have explored it seems.
