Circuit training is for fitness and toneing from what I've seen/experiance.

Some of the exercises help to shed calories but others are intensively made to tone up aswell.

That said, they are not easy to do. I've tried a couple of basic circuits and in my time of slight fitness I found them rather challenging.

circuit training is a circuit with different activities at each stop(about 6-8) you do each activity for a min or so (for about 1-2 hours)
consisting of sit ups, star jumps, squats, stepping, running on the spot ect.
its very tiring, gl you'll need it;)

ps, whats a stepping class?

oh also, its a waste of money:) just jog for an hour each day or something, its free!!

No such thing as toning up, it's a swear word in the gym :p

The 'toned' appearance comes from slightly increased muscle mass and reduced bodyfat, so the said area looks more taut :)

Nah, you can have big muscles, that aren't toned, even if you're thin. Toning comes from doing lots of repetitions, while mass is gotten through low repetitions.
As far as I know at least :)

Sign up to a Muai Thai boxing class tris-, at least the one I went to involved hour and a half sessions - of which the first hour was circuit training and stretches. Soon gets your fitness up, believe me :D

No, you're paying to be taught how to excercise properly, and you're given a place to do this whilst socialising. Gym anyone?

Tris, which gym are you going to?

Are you going to that one on the way to stockton from newport down the wilderness road? Or are you going to one thats not a sodding rip-off yet decent?

Im sort of wanting to get into a fitness scheme since my waist is getting FAR too big with excessive parmo and beer consumption./

I joined my local fitness first gym a few months and tried some of the classes.

Step was interesting. Involved choreographed routines to music using a step. Seems like a piece of piss to start with but by the end i was shagged (knackered, not shagged the other 6 milfs in the room).

Was quite difficult to keep up the pace especially when you dont know the sequence of steps but was quite a laugh.

I guess this would be ideal to burn of loads of calories and lose a bit of excess weight but you'd want something else if your interested in toning.

Also tried body pump - weights on a bar which you use to dance music. This was knackering especially when i started off with too much weight and had such a poor technique. The next day i was aching all over, never hurt so much in my life. But this would be great for toning, turning the excess flab into muscle.

If theres a Spin class somewhere give that a go. I've not done it but heard from a few friends that it's pretty intense, so should yield good results :)

Imo one less night out a month to do what i do at the gym is well worth it. I've tried exercising at home like i do there and it really doesnt work due to space restrictions and equipment. So unless you fork out a fair amount on building a gym at home, the membership fees are worth it.

exercise properly? wtf thats bull shit... anyone can exercise, you dont need some ***** at a gym, who for all we know have dedicated there life to being useless, to tell us how to exercise

next your going to tell me that you drive/bus there

ok maybe theres a reason to go there if you intend on being a gymanstic, otherwise if you wanna loose weight just, go outside ride/run for a couple of hours a day(maybe ask a fat friend along, if you do, dont go into a pub en route though, your hours of work would go 2 waste)

the fresh air will probably do you good, rather than being stuck in a sweaty gym

If someone is serious about losing weight and keeping it off they will need to do some kind of resistance work to build up muscle mass though.

It's horses for courses really. I've been a member of various gyms for 10+ years and i find it a lot easier to motivate myself in a gym, especially as i have options as to what i want to do fitness/strength wise.

There is only so much you can do without equipment :)

im sure i said at the start that the idea is also to meet more women.
running round the streets randomly doesnt obtain such results unless what your also after is being arrested for harrasment.

vlad: i looked at spinning, just seems to be like the static bikes in the gym and someone tells you when to increase resitance etc. i could be mistaken though

sharma: going to the rainbow centre in coulby newham, tis round the corner from me and fairly reasonable.

im not really after toning up or what ever, the idea is to lose weight. although i realise you cant do this very well without building muscle aswell. so i guess i want some kind of exercise with a lot of resistance etc?

well i decided to take spinning on the off chance it might provide what im after.

i have to say (bar sex) its the only activity ive enjoyed being totally knackerd in. the amount of moves you do certainly add some variety. in particular when you do the standing up sections its extremely difficult. i did nearly vomit on some ocassions and my leg give way once.
the pain was quite ignorable once you got in the 'zone' with the fast banging music.
by the end i was very tired and once i got home i enjoyed a nice 2 hour kip :)

Aye, to me Spinning seems like one of the best ways to lose weight, never felt a need to there myself, seems too hard, but have to get ready for the new season so might give it a go :D
