Actually that might be true today but seeing as Sony are a big player in the Blu-Ray consortium it wouldn't take much to enforce all manufacturers of players to have a firmware update imposed. Delivery would be either via the net or the next film you buy.

This will roll out across the hardware I am sure of it.
