Mozilla needs to figure out how to control addons so they can't suck so much memory, they give Firefox a bad reputation. Extensions should be restricted so they can't hog too much memory or follow bad coding practices which could cause problems.

Have to agree, no way 3 addons should be taking 250mb between them, especially for a download manager, weather addon and minimap addon.

The worst one used to be Winamp Toolbar. Cracking idea, but one gigantic memory leak. I've seen FF take up 1.2Gb on my laptop with it installed! Now use Foxytunes instead, 5 tabs open, 82Mb.

Sorry, what was wrong with Firefox again?

There's nothing wrong with Firefox at all if you run it properly.. I just counted installed addons and it's 54... with 24 enabled. And they all serve a purpose. And RAM use never goes above 280-300mb with 7 or 8 tabs open (I barely open more tabs than that).

I guess I'm just lucky because I've never had one that runs away with my memory. I had a problem recently with AutoHideStatusBar hiding popups (thread in feedback) but plain sailing otherwise.

Just had problems with getting the Chrome look to work properly in FF 3.6 but it's kind of fixed now - just waiting for an update for Chromin Frame so I can get rid of the titlebar again and have the tabs on top like it should be. :)

I've been using Chrome recently, and I like it - it just feels more responsive than Firefox, and the smaller memory footprint is a big issue for me as I'm on a Netbook with only 1GB RAM.

I'm slowly becoming a bit of a Google Fanboy anyway...

You can get adblocking for Chrome, although you have to fart about a bit and switch it into dev mode.

You have to do what?

I just went to their extensions page and clicked to add it... nothing special.
