One of my nephews a few months ago asked me if i would be the godfather to his baby which was born a couple of months ago. It has been quite a long time since i seen him, but we virtually grew up together, and it was certainly out of the blue for me.
Obviously i accepted, i know somewhat the role of a godfather so that doesn't concern me really, one thing has been scaring the crap out of me for many months though. The ceremony.
I am completely nervous/anxious when it comes to social gatherings and therefor i am completely shitting myself at the prospect of what the ceremony will be like. I haven't been to church (On "good terms") for about 10 years or more, weddings, christenings etc are not in my forte.
Since christenings, compared to weddings are a bit low-key, especially for godfather/mother, will it be anything like the best man stuff? Will i have to stand up at the front of the church and i dont know, present the baby to someone, or can i hide away in a corner and not think about it?
The other thing is after the ceremony, what then? Is it accustomed to give speeches or have i thankfully dodged the bullet with that one?
Scary times.
