You know what, I may be 'an aggressive cock' but at least I fucking care about what's going on, rather than being lead by the nose. Calean isn't stating an opinion, if anything he's absolving himself from the need to have any opinion at all. I feel no guilt at all about attacking apathy and pig ignorance.

Just because you care strongly about an issue doesnt mean that everyone else should. It certainly doesnt give you any right to try and stamp out other peoples opinions ( and yes he did have an opinion which he clearly stated) like some sort of neo facist imbecile ( and I know you are neither but thats how you and others are coming across in this thread).

For gods sake try to make your opinions without demeaning others you might get some more respect.

What he said!

Tis getting a tad flamey in here, need to don the fireproof undies of +4 diplomacy and step into the arena methinks :)

I'm not getting into the political side of things one way or the other, however, getting back to the original topic, I'd just like to say that this is kind of what I meant when I started the thread: seeing the rights of gamers taken away like that in china pissed me off. I know this is nothing new in china, however, to see gamers as a group being - for lack of a better word - persecuted just made me wonder.

Most people here have probably at one time or another had some chav or other ingrate tosser telling them that spending time playing games on a PC is unsociable, boring, unhealthy, a waste of time, etc etc. I worry that if this way of thinking was to become the norm, then the chances of the british government - weather tory, labour or monster raving loony party - doing the same will become much more likely.

I find this idea worrying.

You seem to be under the (false) illusion that all opinions have equal weight. You also seem to be under the (false) illusion that I give a rat's arse about getting 'respect' from people too indolent to actually give a crap about anything.

I actually believe my opinion holds just as much weight as yours, unlike you if I really want something done I stand up and take action where as you will just sit at the back making noises.

Who says I'm not standing up and taking action? You know nothing about it.

Anyway, this all started when you said:

No one tells me how to live my life though is that a southern thing?

Since this shows a truly remarkable level of ignorance about the world works, a lot of people, including myself, took issue with it. And given that it shows such ignorance, it is very difficult to see how you can have an informed opinionabout the level of state involvement in our lives. It therefore follows, that no, your opinion doesn't carry as much weight as someone who's actually bothered to take an interest.

Your basic argument is 'I don't care', or when pressed, that you think it doesn't matter because "I have nothing to hide, I'm a law-abiding citizen". Well excuse me GDW and Mongoose and whoever if I think 'not caring' isn't an argument. As far the second part ("law abiding"), I, and others, have pointed out the trends that show the dangers in this logic. At no point did I try to 'stamp out' other people's opinions; I argued against the opinion that was given, and objected strongly to the apathy inherent in the other. And alright I made a few sheep jokes - I apologise - but apathy pisses me right off.

I would call myself realistic. You talk like your local Politician follows you round all day making your decisions for you, with the SAS coming round for tea on Tuesdays just to keep you right. Surely you can see why I find that amusing. I am not ignorant I just tend not to over react.

I bet Calaen would care if the government took another five grand a year from his wages in direct taxation, to pay for all this 'security'.

Oh wait, they're already doing that.

Really? How did you work that out?

Clearly you don't give a rats arse, but I am under no illusion. I am merely stating a fact as a third party observer to this thread. I too feel very strongly about the same subject, but respect anothers right to be apathetic or ignorant .

More concerning to me (unless Im under one of these magical illusions you speak of) is that you really do not give a rats arse about anyone elses opinion and that your opinions are 'superior' (see quote 1 above) and hence me describing you as a neo-facist.

Who's issue? If they want to live in a cybercafe why should anyone try to stop them?

Actually m8 - I think some opinions are worth being demeaning towards. You have to stonk through life nowadays without upsetting anyone.

Mainly because the government tells you to :(

Is it the obvious subtext of governments "meddling" where they don't belong that appeals to you so much about firefly and serenity that you've got 3 links to it in your sig, or is it that you like explosions?

o_O

why should a TV program be thought to only appeal to people who agree with the philosophy of the characters? :p

or are you suggesting all star trek fans believe in the earth being the central power in the galaxy?
