nothing wrong with a pet attacking u, if their class can utilise one, thats what its there for, interupting, and pissing you off.

Huh? What? Who?
I was talking to pinkeyez a RM friend and myself were roaming thid, and she came along with her pet, don't recall if we got a shot off on her or not, but she ran into the woods and we followed her, nice wee chase tbh
Eventually found her behind a tree and bolted her 3 or 4 bolts (2 casters, 2 bolts each) and she died.
Pesky pet class interruption

I'll only run if I know I can get away, don't forget - there are things the person attacking you can see that you can't. For example, I attack a caster - annoyingly my crit-shot bounces off his BT, but ok. So I use a few more arrows. Suddenly from around the nearest rock a group pops out, charging towards me.
So do I run? Well if they're moving at speed. No, I try to take down the caster before they rape me. If they arn't moving at speed, then hell yes. There's a very good chance i'll be able to stay out of nuke/bolt range and restealth before they catch up with me.
Part of being a good stealther is knowing when to cut your losses and get the hell out of there, and knowing when your fucked anyway so you might as well do as much damage as you can to slow the other guys down.
Just my opinion atleast, Running is as much a tactic as anything else in the game. Of course, thats not to say i'd run if i'd been dueling with sombody. I don't mind dying 1on1, just shows i'm still not playing in the best manner and gives me reason to think about what I could do better when in that situation again.
