Bloody good job too, that whole law was a mega-joke.

I'm amazed they didn't steal the idea and try it here too tbh :)

They didn't need to because we have far fewer employment rights here anyway. You're right that the law was ridiculous, but, just like the reasons for the French EU referendum vote last year, the French are sticking their heads in the sand and trying to save a way of life that can't go on. The French are terrified of having to live by 'Anglo-Saxon' rules of employment, where your job isn't protected for life, and 'flexibility' is the norm. All the stuff we've got used to since the eighties.

Problem is, the French can't afford their way of doing things anymore, and the politicians know it, but don't have the balls to get the French public to face up to the truth, so they try half-arsed legislation like this. It says a lot about a culture when the most desirable occupation for a young person is 'civil servant'...

I was over in france two weeks ago and actually enjoyed sitting and eating a McDonalds :O

The restaurant was clean, it was well staffed, the food seemed less greasy and a bit more of a burger...and it was cheaper than here! Twas amazing.

I also love the way the young people have reacted to this, and I hope I have the balls to do so if anything upsets me as much. Twas a silly law, and the french people I talked to over there really got quite passionate about it.

Silly Chirac :)

Their economy is already bad and decisions like this to give into the masses will ensure it gets worse - companies will not continue to invest in France if its labour laws are a cumbersome dinosaur - plus the French work to their exact contracted hours - and I mean exact - I think the French make the worst employees in Europe...

French employment law is utterly horrible.
They can't afford their social state, and when it goes tits up who's going crying to the EU?
