cheat, bug or "working as intended"

i was running around in thid yesterday with my infil and i come across a druid named Lawbringer.. i kill him and continue.

30 mins later i see lawbringer again...
this time his pets instantly agroes me.. even tho i am miles away and have 24 stealth. I leg it and get away. i think ohh well... must have something to do with lag. but everytime i got anywhere near him the pet see right through the stealth... even tho im not close.. waaaay out of melee range the pet know im there. i talked to other stealthers and found out that the pet also did the same with them.

just wondering:

is it a bug?
a cheat? not saying u cheated just wanna know.
or another wierd "working as intended" thingy?

It depends what you mean by 'miles away'. At the moment pets can (when they feel like it) see through stealth and so if its set to aggro and it runs in aggro range of you, it will attack even though its owner cant see you.

Not sure whether its 'working as intended' or not. Stealthers say that its an obvious bug whilst pet users argue that it makes sense as dogs etc will be able to 'sniff out enemies'.

Its all a bit unclear but what Im fairly sure of is that the druid was doing nothing dodgy himself.

The main gripe that a lot of stealthers have is the range at which an aggro pet can uncover a cloaked enemy, if the master cant see you surely the pet cant either?

As for the "sniffing you out" thing, smell isnt part of DAoC that i know of, otherwise surely everytime a kobold or troll came close you should be able to smell em a mile off

It's well known pets can see through stealth, but I have been pa'd many times while underhill was on aggro, and it let them sneak up.

My favourite is to hide pet as best as possible in favourite stealth area, getting uncovered is nearly always end of stealther.

I've heard the part about pets going aggro on a long distance....especially on stealthers. Happend when me and a friend was in Thid. I stood on mb stones and friend was on MB...suddenly this dr00d pet (tree) started to walk towards us. I thought it was a lag ghost, but no. The tree hitted my friend....

The dr00d seemed to be afk, since we killed the pet. Was a bit strange thou it aggroed when we were in stealth from that distance.
Friend have 24 stealth and my sb have 25.

When it comes to sm pets, Mythic has said, long time ago, that the pets live in another dimension where stealth isnt a factor and due to that can intercept and keep the track of a steather that restealths after you set the pet on them.

Just loved when my buffed up pet set off on a bee line for an archer that tried to shoot my summonspecced sm. A few min later a kill message came up telling you that you had killed xxx. Unfortunately, a lot had the wits with them and ran for a group of realmmates to get help killing it. The pet became a hero if it made it back to me afterwards.

Pets are good.

lol ran into lawbringer tonite while playing my infi Shizuka, dr00d pet had unstealthed me ages ago, jsut presumed myself unlucky, but after multi unstealthinging by lawbringers pet , decided it was dr0od pets (3 times it unstealthed me , i survived everytime b4 getitng bored attacking and eventually killing law but dying to ck archers) the range is insane, i hav played lots of pet classes and only dr0ods seem to be able to see thru stealth at this range, played cabby, necro, and chanter none of these pets ever saw stealthers that were near me and were always on agro and i have mod 25 stealth

A word from the wise

I heard that my name was being mentioned here as a whine thread, but having read all your comments it does not seem to be a whine at all just healthy discussion, so I thought that as the main topic of discussion I should have my input.

The Pet finding stealthers thing was pure accident, no groups with spaces so I was forced to solo and decided to put pet on Aggressive to challenge any one that attacked me, I then discovered that my pet in aggressive mode was capable of finding stealthers, the range is not as big as some mention but never the less it works, I now find by patrolling near common stealth camp spots I have had quite a success tracking you all down, although to be fair I have died many times so not as 1 sided as this thread suggests - having more success now that a few rangers have teamed up with me or a Hero who sticks to pet and engages stealther while I dot and heal.

Not sure if this is an issue that needs addressing, guard dogs were in use in the time period DAoC is set and were often employed as early warning for the encamped soldiers, so from my point of view I am just patrolling my camp to ensure the resting casters dont get jumped on, and discovered by accident that my pet was rather good at it

Please keep posting your views - good or bad I like a bit of a roasting and I am enjoying my little bit of limelight.

Interesting, other than one experience with a necro I think every other time I've been unstealthed was to a druid pet... So to a certain extent I agree with you there, but it seems silly that druid pets would be mor efficient at it than any other pets.

Also it just occured to me that I've never tried it with a hunter, but it could be a huge advantage.

Would be interesting for other realms with pet classes (real animals not enchanted stuff) to try a similar idea and see how it works I have a NS and since my discovery avoid them and there pets - I am quite sure you will start seeing alot more droods about since this thread has been started, would be interesting to have some input from Mythic about this aswell.

I've been uncovered by bd and spiritmaster pets before when playing my nightshade, but that was at close range.

I've noticed that my controlled animist turretts when set to aggresive will turn to track stealthed targets that are out of their dd range. Turret dd range is 1000 I think so they must be able to detect past that.

Havent tried a nature spec druid in the bg, may do now

Druid pets see through stealth if set to agro, and at this time is working as intended...

...never have been agroed by any other class pet while i was stealthed.

"Low level Druid pets will no longer be able to detected hidden steathers from great range"

Stealth over level doesnt affect your 'stealth seeing abilities' just the speed you run at and the chance a guard/mob has of uncovering you.

Hence 25 stealth is a bit of a waste of points.

Tried an experiment tonite, myself and another Nurt spec drood who only has a low lvl pet, she did not uncover any stealthers to my knowledge, so me putting more points into Nat Aff than most seems to have a plus side after all - my pet is Blue/Green con to me (changes as I level but never drops below green con) my spec so far is 8 Nurt 14 Reg 18 Nat Affinity - aiming for final spec of 9 Nurt 39 Reg 36 Nature Affin will keep you posted as I level to see if Pet continues to work as a stealth hunter.

You came close to him....think its 2000 range max..pet auto aggros YOU stealthed or not..if hes ported then it wouldnt have...but if he was ressed...as soon as pet was up and you were in range!! run for the hills!!

its working as intended and its the way i like it...i love watching infils running from my pet!! well funny!!! most are dumb to keep running some kill it...but by then i got a DOT on em and theyre toast..

you cant really whine.. not like Druids are RvR kings of solo or anything...we stick out a mile...my pet is the only thing ive got going for me as a healer!!

This is interesting, I have fully specced my Chanter in Ench and tried leaving pet on Aggro, he does seem to jump stealthers a lot.
Compared to Mana Chanters standing right by me, my pet was always the one to uncover them.

yeah Druids Nature spec are kinda FOTM at the moment but VERY easy to lvl up..i think i took down quite a few middies and albs with my DOT the other night (Arilmar for those who i killed)

shame i deleted him yesterday tho =( decided to roll a Necro so i can spawn a horde of BG1 Alts..infils...scouts stc.... cant wait to be /rude at when my necro appears... Prada is the name..watch out for me!!
