Cheapest Car Insurance For Young Drivers.

I'm driving a 1.6 atm and the cheapest quote i've had through is 2,000£ 3rd party with fuck all.

Anyone has any recomendations for cheap insurance for young drivers please (18 male).

don't get a 1.6. I guess you have been driving for less than 1 year. If you want cheap insurance get a lower one.

Your best bet

Go as a named driver on one of your parents insurance....But try get a policy where named drivers gain no claims bonus aswell..
other option is to put a experienced older driver on as a named driver this can knock upto 20% off...

I got quoted £826 for a For Focus, W Reg and I'm just closing in on 20. Zero No claims bonus & on my own policy.

How did you get insured for 4 years without a driving lisence?

There is no "cheapest" company out there, the only way to find out the best quote for you is to unfortunalty spend hours filling in the same old forms on each companies website... which gets very ZzZ. Or you can go on one of those price comparision website, how ever i dont think they are 100% accurate and dont scan all companies.

The reason there is no "cheapest" company for everyone is they all use different formulas to calculate there price, so it can vary quite alot between different peoples sircumstances.

I have been driveing 2 years now and my first car was a 1.3 P reg fiesta and that cost me about £1400 3rd party, think i was about 18/19 then. Now i got my no claims/experiance up to 2 years i traded it in for a 2 litre Alfa Romeo GTV which i loooove and that was "only" £1100 fully comp.

the week after i pased my test i got a new 1.6 focus got quoted £5k insurance since then i have been paying £700 getting no claims from direct line under my dads name. If you want a decent car its really the only way to go.

Someone I know has 4 years no claims, they have an insurance policy for the car for £287, if i go on the policy as a named driver it goes up to £900 yet im still fully insured to drive.

i think i paid 600 odd last year, that's with 2 years no claims, with directline on a 1.1. been driving with my own car and insurance since i was 17. 2 more years and hopefully my insurance will be relatively cheap (assuming i don't crash between now and then!).

1.6 1yrs no claims 20yrs old = 2k. Jamie you wont find cheap car insurance for a 1.6 at your age insurance companys just think your a boy racer. They thought I was, mines a 2seater convertable. I don't think they know it's got 189bhp and will beat anything upto a 2.5ltr though! Your best bet is like said here before, either get on someone elses policy or get a smaller engine car

Just so you dont get confused, no claims bonus as a named driver on Direct Line insurance wont transfer to any other company as its not recognised as no claims. The only purpose is to give you a discount when you eventually get your own insurance, and only then will you start building up no claims which you can transfer.

Seriously tho, under 21 you don't get cheap car insurance. If you can't afford 2k insurance, get a crapper car.
About your only chance is to do what others have done an find someone with their own insuance. After your 21+ the price drops hugely and you can worry about getting your own.

Well for someone I knew it took £200 off but didn't know it had that much effect.

Quinn Direct are pretty good for young drivers.

@ get a smaller car etc. I insured a nissan micra first year cost me 1,700 so for the sake of 300£ more i dont mind paying for a 1.6 car is in mint condition etc etc.

Just a word of warning in regards to named driver on someone elses policy.

If you register the car in your name, insure it under another person name with you a named driver then if you have an accident some insurers can actually come down hard on this.

The policy holder should be the main driver in their eyes. If it turns out that the named driver is the registered owner and have an accident it is possible that they wont pay out any money. Seen this done before and it can end up costing you more.

You may never have an accident, or they may not care about it if you do have an accident, just something to be aware off.

Quinn are one of the cheaper insurers, AA have been cheapest for me so far.

1.9 dturbo 306, 97 reg and they've quoted me £927 including legal cover, courtesy car, breakdown cover etc.

It's silly really, as in 5 years we'll all be able to insure rediculous cars for nothing. A friend of mine insured his 350z (3.6 litre v6 sports car) for £600 when it was new, fully comp aswell!.
