Well it's not my thing, but it is still good to see some serious competition being thrown at the mobile companies :)

I guess O2's exclusivity deal with Apple has ran out. This is probably a good thing for both customers and Apple as it will widen the number of users likely to take up iPhones.

AFAIR the tescos deal is done through o2 anyway, although competition would be good if Apple weren't forcing the carriers to fix their prices.

Cheap? What part of any of those deals is cheap? Honestly do people think spending £400+ a year on a mobile phone is cheap?! Are you nuts!? Regardless of what contract you sign up for that's how much it'd cost. I could never justify that personally, it's £400 towards a trip abroad!

Don't get me wrong, love my i-pod touch, but I'd never take out a monthly contract again, what a bloomin waste of money.

but thats why they are offering this monthly deal, it may be expensive adding it all together, but with these deals more ppl can afford to pay for it.

It's cheaper than buying the phone offline, and is a good option as you only need to commit to 12 months minimum. a 3g iphone offline is around £550.

but it was shown somewhere that the tesco deal works out around the same price as the others if not a bit more you just pay it over a shorter period of time so its really not cheap

It's the fact that you are not tied into a contract for longer than 12 months that is the key point, also the Tesco price plans offer more than the current o2 ones, not sure what Orange are offering.

Doing some quick arithmetic, the Tesco one still works out cheaper.

The minimum contract period for O2 is 2 years for the comparitive deal. That works out around £840 over 2 years.

The Tesco contract is 18 months but if you extrapolate it out to 2 years it works out at a total of £702 over the 2 years. Over 18 months, yes it works out slightly more expensive but if make the durations equal, Tesco becomes cheaper.

If someone could check my numbers in case I've made a mistake that would be cool :)
