Are you mad at the Dad being a bit happy that he isnt going to have to care for her?

Agreed but....without being in that kind of position its impossible to imagine the strain you would be under 24/7.

Yeah I'd agree, although I'm really shocked that one of the reasons is that Social Care cant offer a package to help out. Although he did seem to mention that if she came home with him he would still be expecting to work. I dont see anyway how anyone could have that hope when they have such a dependant child.

But they fought tooth and nail for what most people considered to be an unreasonable, and in my opinion cruel decision that was in itself purely selfish for the parents reasons. Then they decide that neither of them can be bothered (essentially) to put in the time and money to deal with the consequences of what they fought for, so the child is now in the care of social services.

I just think its sick, and so unfair for the child.

I feel differently. I think it would be more of a shame for the child to be left with a parent who just doesn't have the resources to do everything she needs to lead a full life. If her parents just can't physically do it then she is just better off with people who can, but thats just my opinion.

To be honest, I don't think babies with really bad problems should be allowed to live. Living is having friends, doing stuff, learning and understanding the world around you..your heart beating is not being alive and if I was a vegtable I would hope for someone to pull the plug to be honest.

I think thats a whole different debate.

If her parents hadn't got the resources or ability to care for her, why the fuck were they fighting?
Its fucking retarded that they fight so hard for her to be resussed, and then split up and are now like "oh well, not my problem m8s"
Pisses me off.
Bring in the breeding licences.

In any other circumstance I would agree with you Ama, however the fact that they fought so hard for her to be resucsiated even though her quality of life is going to be negligible anyway puts a skew on the issue.

She has been in almost constant pain, and there are strong doubts whether she will ever have full sight or hearing, and at present, the amount of brain damage she has suffered is unknown, but thought to be considerable. To fight for her life with full knowledge of what this would involve for them, and not for Charlotte's benefit, but for the benefit of the parents (who already have three children - not that this means she's expendable, but that they are already under considerable pressure) then they turn around and say they can't cope, and didn't expect their lives to change that much is both naive and cruel.

In my opinion of course. In another circumstance, if a child is going to have a better chance of good quality of life through being fostered or adopted, and the parents are genuinely unable to cope, then I think this is a good option, but in this case I just think it beggars belief.

not meaning to sound heartless, but what a shitty life she will have even if they cared for her :/
She has brain damage (to what extent they dont know) and she is going to be in and out of hospital for the rest of her life.. how anyone could do that to a kid is beyond me

they should have thought about it before they ran off to court...
the 2 of them should be forced to pay what they can afford for her care and the rest by the relevant authority

To be fair to them, they didn't know their relationship was going to turn out like this, perhaps if they'd known then... No. I can't see any parent not fighting to keep their child alive. I can only imagine whats going on in their heads and you can only do the same.

Perhaps if the parents didn't fight to keep their child alive and let it die the general opinion would still go towards cussing them for letting this little girl die because they didn't think they could look after properly? I'm sure that the comparison would go towards abandoning kittens or something.

I'll have to stick by my opinion that if the parents don't think they can do right by her then she should be allowed the chance of finding people who can.

And Chronic, there probably is no real way of telling how serious the brain damage is until she reaches an age where she can or should be communicating or walking or something.

i think different. The father knows he cannot possibly care for the child so is giving the child up so someone else can look aftgr. I dont think when they were fighting for the childs life that they would split up.

Take the fact the kid is ill i think the father done the right thing and i imagine it is very very hard for him, like when he says he hopes the child will live near him.

I wonder what the mother says in all this.

And by the way I will get flamed to high hell for this, But 1.1 million + treatment on someone which will never make any contribution to the economy and will not even lead a life she will enjoy, why not use that 1.1 million to treat people that can recover and lead full lives?

cause the way humans, and in particular medically trained humanitarian ppl, are that regardless of the cost if they have the power to help someone then they will

All those doctors and nurses etc who have treated her wouldnt even dream of stopping and going "Hold on, this money should go to someone else"

Not sure if that makes sense

Thats beside the point, she will have problems which put her in hospital regularly, its not a matter of if, illustrated by the fact she has repeatedly been back in hospital.
Its disgusting that a child is put through that sort of pain for no real reason, and it makes me physically sick that they would knowingly do it.
If there was a chance she could live a "normal" life, fair enough, but in this case i'm afraid there isnt.

Because if it was your child you would move heaven and earth for them regardless of cost to yourselves or the government - and besides I would rather they spend 1.1 mil on people in any respect than on another laser guided missile ....

Its incredibly sad for the little baby, but not being in the same situation this couple are, I would find it impossible to pronounce anathema on them.

So by your logic, if someone´s losing both his arms in a car accident at the age of 18, he shouldn´t receive treatment because he´ll never make a contribution to the economy? I´d rather see 1.1 million go into saving the life of a child (regardless how handicapped it is) than wasting it on weapons or a new tiara for the pope.
It´s not up to us to decide which life is worth living and which isn´t.

Exactly, like that stupid fucking "Button" thread. If you can't give life, you have no right to take it. Life is a very precious gift.

yeah but thats a crown you know it, i know it, heck even the pope knows it. I doubt he would wear it if someone said to him, oi mate you forgot your tiara.

The last Pope to be crowned was Paul VI in 1963, but after the solemn coronation ceremony he never used the tiara again and left his Successors free to decide in this regard. Pope John Paul I, whose memory is so vivid in our hearts, did not wish to have the tiara; nor does his Successor wish it today.

Basically what he is saying is, i'm not wearing a tiara cause its gay and only English Princesses should wear one

Yeah, that´s why I said "a new tiara"... which was basically a placeholder for "any pompous, redundant stuff the church deicdes to dump money into".

But the thing is, they weren't fighting to keep her alive, they were fighting that should she die again (she has clinically died 3 times already I believe) that they should have to resuscitate her again. At some point you have to get the big hints that nature keeps on dropping you. I know if I was in the same situation I would think of this from a logical view rather than an emotional one.

I hope you never ever have to put that to the test, but if you do please let me know what happens.

cant see why its cruel, the parents split, they cant have a child on loan each week when its braindamaged and with 3 children split over those 2 parents (weekendchildren i guess) having a diabled child isnt an easy job. tho its seems cruel from an outsider perspective.

/offtopic

it makes me sick that people write: "Oh! but its not fit for living, its retarded and whatnot, how could it ever get a decent life?". what the fuck do you people know about how a life is good? in the end, that will result you in wanting to just let traffic victims die coz many of them will have a chance of severe braindamage and probably end up as this kid here. Now you say you wouldn't want that for yourself, but you're just thinking that kind of life has lesser quality. Why? meh, yeah its a whole noter dicussion.

luckily most people dont lose their arms "by nature" but by human creations and therefore nature would be unfair to bring into this. either its nature or its humanity all the way.

so by that rationel you'd rather help 10 people who abused children and fucked their liver over but are rich and pay alot of tax and 5 who got damaged in a work accident on a factory? if the price was the same... that kind of ethics are strange...
