hehe, Apple's answer to anything: sue :D

In fairness, a lot of the price premium on Apple's computer line is the intangible value of the OS. If Leopard et al. could be run on normal cheap hardware then Apple's computer business strategy would be in trouble.

Of course there are things like the OSx86, but that's fairly hardcore for the Average Joe. I doubt Psystar will last, in fact it's quite surprising they even got this far, but I guess we'll see what happens :)

Kind regards

Actually the price premium on Apple stuff is nothing more than because that is what people will pay for it :)

Apparently you can't update the software on these machines. Which makes them about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Esp with the number of bugs 10.5.2 has.

I can quite agree with the previous comments. Apple are only still alive because some people swear by the brand name. Most of them for little to no reason whatsoever. They're no longer an innovative company and haven't been since the 80s, but blind brand loyalty will keep them (and of course many other companies in similar situations) alive.

For proper forthcoming innovation, you're better off looking at companies you might think twice about. VIA for one. I've been saying for the last year or so that I expect them to put in a serious bid for AMD if they haven't already done so behind closed doors.

Apple's OS is nice. Far from perfect; far enough from it for me to make a statement along the lines of XP being just as safe (in the right hands) and even more reliable - but then again XP has had well over 6 years to mature.

True Kryt, although in fairness to Apple, their marketing department does do a good job maintaining the brand loyalty (although I've never owned an Apple product, so I guess you can't please everyone :)).

As for VIA, one interesting tid-bit is that nVidia has partnered with them to create a rival to Intel's Centrino platform. This, combined with the forthcoming Isaiah CPU, looks like VIA might be making a bit of a comeback. That said, their present position is somewhat dire, and despite nVidia's warmongering, Intel are still in a very strong position. Anyway, competition is good, it's just a shame I don't own shares in them all, hehe.

Kind regards

Thats true indeed. The more people in the game the better, with the most beneficial party being us lot, the end users :D

I just hope AMD can either pull their socks up or get bought out by someone with the vision to sort the company out. It's in trouble.

Apple can sell yellow snow to eskimos and budweiser to jehova'a witnesses. That must be the pinnacle of marketing schemes ;)

Mind you, some of their marketing isn't far off breaking the law - they've been bending it for years. Still, every time I hear them claim things like "worlds best" and "worlds thinnest" I feel like sticking yet another needle in my Steve Jobs doll.

That's true; beware any company that claims the "world's ..." anything (Samsung also love this; they rarely launch a product without some claim to fame :)). I think some Apple adverts have been banned in the past because they're ostensibly untrue (especially performance wise). Anyway, I guess it matters not, Apple fans don't need much encouragement to part with their cash :)

Kind regards
